 무한한 차원

♣ 말씀 묵상 :/ 에베소서 3:16-21 

" 그리스도의 사랑의 폭과 길이와 높이와 깊이를 깨달아 알기를…기도합니다 "(에베소서 3:17-18, 현대인의 성경)

윙윙, 찰깍 찰깍거리는 기계소리를 들으며 나는 비닐에 덮인 매트에 가만히 누워 지시에 따라 숨을 멈추고 있었습니다. 많은 사람들이 MRI 검사를 잘 받았겠지만, 폐쇄공포증이 있는 나는 그 검사를 받을 때마다 반드시 나 자신보다 훨씬 더 큰 존재,  더 큰 분께 마음을 모아 집중해야만 했습니다. 

내 마음속에서 “헤아릴 수 없는 그리스도의 사랑의 폭과 길이와 높이와 깊이”(엡 3:18, 현대인의 성경)라는 성경구절이  윙윙거리는 기계소리의 리듬을 따라 떠올랐습니다. 

바울은 에베소 교회를 위해 기도하면서 하나님의 무한하신 사랑과 어디에나 임재하고 계심을 강조하기 위해 하나님의 사랑의 네 가지 척도를 기술했습니다.

MRI 검사를 받으면서 누워있는 내 자세는 하나님의 사랑을 이해할 수 있는 새로운 이미지를 선사해 주었습니다.

폭: 튜브 안에서 양팔을 몸에 딱 붙일 경우 몸과 벽 사이의 각각 15센티미터의 간격, 

길이: 머리와 발의 연장선에 있는 튜브의 뚫려있는 두 입구 사이의 거리, 

높이: 코에서 튜브의 ‘천장’까지의 15센티미터의 간격, 

깊이: 내 몸 밑에서 나를 떠받치면서 바닥에 고정되어 있는 튜브 지지대입니다. 

이 네 방향의 치수에 관한 설명은 MRI 튜브 안에서 뿐만 아니라 삶의 모든 상황에서 나를 보호하시는 하나님의 임재를 잘 예시해 주고 있습니다.

하나님의 사랑은 우리를 사방에서 에워싸고 있습니다. 

폭: 모든 곳의 모든 사람들에게까지 팔을 뻗어 안으시고, 

길이: 그분의 사랑은 결코 끝이 없을 정도로 길며, 

높이: 위로 우리를 들어 올리시고, 

깊이: 그 몸을 낮추시어 그 어떤 상황에서도 우리를 받쳐주십니다. 

그 어떤 것도 우리를 하나님에게서 떼어낼 수 없습니다!(롬 8:38-39).

사랑하는 하나님, 잠시 멈추어 우리를 향한 하나님의 다차원적인 사랑을 묵상할 수 있게 도와주소서!

어떤 일이 하나님의 사랑에 의구심을 던지게하는가?
어떻게 그분을 신뢰할 것인가? 

 

 Infinite Dimensions

♣ Read/ Ephesians 3:16-21 

"I pray that you...[will] grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ." Ephesians 3:17-18

I lay still on the vinyl-covered mat and held my breath on command as the machine whirred and clicked. I knew lots of folks had endured MRIs, but for claustrophobic me, the experience required focused concentration on something—Someone—much bigger than myself.

In my mind,a phrase from Scripture— “how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ” (EPHESIANS 3:18)—moved in rhythm with the machine’s hum. 

In Paul’s prayer for the Ephesian church, he described four dimensions to God’s love in order to stress the unending parame- ters of His love and presence.

My position while lying down for the MRI provided a new image for my understanding.

Wide: the six inches on either side of where my arms were tightly pinned to my body within the tube. 

Long: the distance between the cylinder’s two openings, extending out from my head and feet. 

High: the six inches from my nose up to the “ceiling” of the tube. Deep: the support of the tube anchored to the floor beneath me, holding me up.

Four dimensions illustrating God’s presence surrounding and holding me in the MRI tube—and in every circumstance of life. God’s love is ALL around us.

Wide: He extends His arms to reach all people everywhere. 

Long: His love never ends.

High: He lifts us up. 

Deep: He dips down, holding us in all situations. 

Nothing can separate us from Him! (ROMANS 8:38–39).

Dear God, help us pause to ponder Your multidimensional love for us!
