아버지가 없이 자란 랍은 흔히 아버지들이 자녀에게 물려주는 실용적인 지혜들을 많이 배우지 못한 것을 아쉬워했습니다. 그는 누구든지 생활에 필요한 기술들을 얻게 하려는 마음에서, 선반을 다는 법에서부터 타이어를 바꾸는 법까지 모든 것을 가르쳐 보여주는 “아빠, 이거 어떻게 해?”라고 하는 실용적인 비디오 시리즈를 만들었습니다. 랍의 따뜻한 사랑의 마음과 부드러운 스타일로 그의 유튜브는 수백만의 구독자를 모으는 돌풍을 일으켰습니다.

많은 사람들은 부모처럼 전문성이 있는 사람들이 소중한 기술들을 가르쳐 주고 어려움을 헤쳐 나가는 것을 도와주기를 바랍니다. 모세는 이스라엘 민족과 함께 애굽을 탈출한 후 그들 자신의 나라를 세울 때 지혜가 필요했습니다. 모세의 장인 이드로는 사람들 간의 분쟁을 직접 해결하고 있는 모세의 중압감을 보고 그에게 지도자의 책임을 위임하는 방법에 대해 사려 깊은 조언을 해주었습니다(출애굽기 18:17-23). 모세는 “자기 장인의 말을 듣고 그 모든 말대로 했습니다”(24절).

하나님은 우리 모두에게 지혜가 필요하다는 것을 아십니다. 어떤 사람들은 감사하게도 현명한 조언을 해주는 신실한 부모가 있지만, 그렇지 못한 사람들도 있습니다. 그러나 하나님의 지혜는 구하는 모든 사람에게 주어집니다(야고보서 1:5). 그리고 하나님은 성경의 각 장을 통해서도 지혜를 공급해 주시는데, 성경은 우리가 겸손하고 진실하게 지혜로운 사람들의 말을 경청할 때 “필경은 지혜롭게 되고”(잠언 19:20), 다른 사람과 나눌 수 있는 지혜를 얻게 될 거라고 깨우쳐 줍니다.

17.  모세의 장인이 그에게 이르되 네가 하는 것이 옳지 못하도다 18.  너와 또 너와 함께 한 이 백성이 필경 기력이 쇠하리니 이 일이 네게 너무 중함이라 네가 혼자 할 수 없으리라 19.  이제 내 말을 들으라 내가 네게 방침을 가르치리니 하나님이 너와 함께 계실지로다 너는 하나님 앞에서 그 백성을 위하여 그 사건들을 하나님께 가져오며 20.  그들에게 율례와 법도를 가르쳐서 마땅히 갈 길과 할 일을 그들에게 보이고 21.  너는 또 온 백성 가운데서 능력 있는 사람들 곧 하나님을 두려워하며 진실하며 불의한 이익을 미워하는 자를 살펴서 백성 위에 세워 천부장과 백부장과 오십부장과 십부장을 삼아 22.  그들이 때를 따라 백성을 재판하게 하라 큰 일은 모두 네게 가져갈 것이요 작은 일은 모두 그들이 스스로 재판할 것이니 그리하면 그들이 너와 함께 담당할 것인즉 일이 네게 쉬우리라 23.  네가 만일 이 일을 하고 하나님께서도 네게 허락하시면 네가 이 일을 감당하고 이 모든 백성도 자기 곳으로 평안히 가리라 24.  이에 모세가 자기 장인의 말을 듣고 그 모든 말대로 하여

 

💙 The Need For Wisdom

"Moses listened to his father-in-law and did everything he said." [ EXODUS 18:24 ]

Many of us long for the expertise of a parental figure to teach us valuable skills as well as help us navigate difficult situations. Moses needed some wisdom after he and the Israelites fled cap- tivity in Egypt and were establishing themselves as a nation. Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, saw the strain that settling disputes among the people was having on Moses. So Jethro gave Moses thoughtful advice on how to delegate responsibility in leadership (EXODUS 18:17-23). Moses “listened to his father-in-law and did everything he said” (V. 24).

God knows we all need wisdom. Some may be blessed with godly parents who offer wise advice, and some aren’t. But God’s wisdom is available to all who ask (JAMES 1:5). He’s also provided wisdom throughout the pages of Scripture, which reminds us that when we humbly and sincerely listen to the wise, we “will be counted among the wise” (PROVERBS 19:20) and have wisdom to share with others. 17.  Moses' father-in-law replied, "What you are doing is not good. 18.  You and these people who come to you will only wear yourselves out. The work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it alone. 19.  Listen now to me and I will give you some advice, and may God be with you. You must be the people's representative before God and bring their disputes to him. 20.  Teach them the decrees and laws, and show them the way to live and the duties they are to perform. 21.  But select capable men from all the people -- men who fear God, trustworthy men who hate dishonest gain -- and appoint them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens. 22.  Have them serve as judges for the people at all times, but have them bring every difficult case to you; the simple cases they can decide themselves. That will make your load lighter, because they will share it with you. 23.  If you do this and God so commands, you will be able to stand the strain, and all these people will go home satisfied." 24.  Moses listened to his father-in-law and did everything he said.
