" This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light. "

The cozy little village of Rjukan, Norway, is a delightful place to live—except during the dark days of winter. Located in a valley at the foot of the towering Gaustatoppen Mountain, the town receives no direct sunlight for nearly half of the year. Residents had long considered the idea of placing mirrors at the top of the mountain to reflect the sun.
But the concept was not feasible until recently. In 2005, a local artist began “The Mirror Project”to bring together people who could turn the idea into reality. Eight years later, in October 2013, the mirrors went into action.
Residents crowded into the town square to soak up the reflected sunlight.

In a spiritual sense, much of the world is like the village of Rjukan—mountains of troubles keep the light of Jesus from getting through. But God strategically places His children to act as reflectors. One such person was John the Baptist, who came “to bear witness of the Light”—Jesus—who gives light “to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death”(John 1:7; Luke 1:79).

Just as sunlight is essential for emotional and physical health, so exposure to the light of Jesus is essential for spiritual health. Thankfully, every believer is in a position to reflect His light into the world’s dark places.

Dear Father,
help me to reflect Your light into the world around me today.
May all that I say and do bear witness of Your light and truth.
May others see how amazing You are.

John 1:1-9

[1] In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
[2] He was in the beginning with God.
[3] All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.
[4] In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
[5] And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
[6] There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
[7] This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe.
[8] He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
[9] That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.

말씀 읽기 :
요한복음 1:1 - 1:9

" 그가 증언하러 왔으니 곧 빛에 대하여 증언하고 "
( 요한복음 1:7 )

노르웨이의 조용한 마을 류칸은 겨울 동안의 어두운 시기만 빼고는 살기에 아주 좋은 곳입니다. 그 마을은 높이 솟아 오른 가우스타토펜 산 밑에 자리 잡고 있어 연중 거의 절반은 직접 햇볕을 받지 못합니다. 그곳 주민들은 오랫동안 햇빛을 반사하는 거울을 그 산 꼭대기에 세울 것을 생각하고 있었습니다.
그러나 그 생각은 최근까지 실행되지 못하다가 2005년에 그 지역 예술가가 그 생각을 실현할 수 있는 사람들을 불러 모아 “거울 프로젝트”를 시작하였고, 8년 후 2013년 10월에 거울이 작동하기 시작했습니다. 주민들은 반사된 햇볕을 맘껏 쬐기 위해 마을 광장으로 모여들었습니다.

영적으로 볼 때 세상의 많은 곳이 류칸 마을과 같아서 근심과 고통의 산들 때문에 예수님의 빛이 비치지 못하고 있습니다. 그러나 하나님은 그분의 자녀들이 빛의 반사체로 작용할 수 있도록 하십니다. 그런 사람 중에 하나가 바로 세례 요한이었습니다. 그는 “어둠과 죽음의 그늘에 앉은 자에게”빛을 비춰주시는 “빛이신 예수님을 증언하였습니다”(요 1:7; 눅 1:79).

감정과 육신의 건강을 위해 햇볕이 꼭 필요한 것과 같이 영적 건강을 위해서는 예수님의 빛에 노출되는 것이 꼭 필요합니다.
감사하게도 모든 믿는 자들은 어둔 세상에 주님의 빛을 비추도록 세워져 있습니다.

사랑하는 하나님 아버지,
하나님의 빛을 오늘 제 주위 세상에 비추도록 도와주소서.
저의 모든 말과 행동으로 주님의 빛과 진리를 증언하게 하셔서
다른 이들이 주님의 위대함을 볼 수 있게 하소서.
