먼 길(THE LONG WAY)

 먼 길

♡ 출애굽기 13:17 - 13:18

“ 블레셋 사람의 땅의 길은 가까울지라도 하나님이 그들을 그 길로 인도하지 아니하셨으니 “[출애굽기 13:17]

자신의 동료들이 하나 둘 승진하자, 벤자민은 약간 부러움을 느끼지 않을 수 없었습니다. 

“ 어떻게 아직 매니저가 안 된거야? 너는 그럴 자격이 있는데. “ 친구들이 말했습니다. 

그러나 벤은 자신의 경력을 하나님께 맡기기로 했습니다. 

그는 이렇게 대답했습니다. 

“ 만약 이것이 나를 위한 하나님의 계획이라면 그냥 내 일을 열심히 할 거야.”

몇 년이 지난 후 벤은 마침내 승진이 되었습니다. 그는 그때까지 축적된 경험으로 자신 있게 일을 해나갈 수 있었고, 부하 직원들의 존경도 얻게 되었습니다. 반면에 그의 몇몇 동료들은 아직 준비가 되지 않았을 때 승진이 되었기에, 여전히 감독 책임 업무에 힘들어하고 있었습니다. 

벤은 하나님이 자신의 역할을 더 잘 준비할 수 있도록 그를 “멀리 돌아가게” 하셨다는 것을 깨달았습니다.

하나님이 이스라엘 백성들을 이집트에서 인도해 내실 때(출애굽기 13:17-18), 가나안으로 가는 “지름길”이 위험으로 가득했기에 더 먼 길을 택하셨습니다. 성경 주석가들은 그들이 더 긴 여정을 감으로써 나중에 이어지는 전투를 위해 육체적, 정신적, 영적으로 자신들을 강화하는 데 더 많은 시간을 가질 수 있었다고 말합니다.

가장 짧은 길이 항상 가장 좋은 것은 아닙니다. 때로 우리의 경력이든 노력이든, 하나님은 우리 인생에서 더 먼 길을 가게 하셔서 우리가 앞으로의 삶의 여정에 더 잘 준비할 수 있게 하십니다. 일이 빨리 진행되지 않는 것처럼 보일 때, 우리를 인도하시고 안내해주시는 하나님을 신뢰해야 합니다.

인생에서 “더 먼 길”을 가게 함으로써 하나님께서 당신을 어떻게 더 강하게 만들고 계십니까?

하나님을 계속해서  신뢰하도록 어떻게 자신을 일깨우고 있습니까?

< 사랑의 하나님, 일이 빨리 진행되지 않아 보일 때 제가 어떻게 느끼는지 하나님은 잘 아십니다. 

인내하게 하셔서 하나님과, 하나님의 주권적인 계획과 목적을 신뢰할 수 있게 하여 주소서.>

17. 바로가 백성을 보낸 후에 블레셋 사람의 땅의 길은 가까울지라도 하나님이 그들을 그 길로 인도하지 아니하셨으니 이는 하나님이 말씀하시기를 이 백성이 전쟁을 하게 되면 마음을 돌이켜 애굽으로 돌아갈까 하셨음이라

18. 그러므로 하나님이 홍해의 광야 길로 돌려 백성을 인도하시매 이스라엘 자손이 애굽 땅에서 대열을 지어 나올 때에

 THE LONG WAY

♡ Exodus 13:17 - 13:18 

“ God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, though that was shorter. “[ EXODUS 13:17 ]

As his peers were promoted one by one, Benjamin couldn’t help but feel a little envious. “How come you’re not a manager yet? You deserve it,” friends told him. 

But Ben decided to leave his career to God. “If this is God’s plan for me, I’ll just do my job well,” he replied.

Several years later, Ben was finally promoted. By then, his added experience enabled him to do his job confidently and won him the respect of subordinates. Some of his peers, meanwhile, were still struggling with their supervisory responsibilities, as they had been promoted before they were ready. 

Ben realized God had taken him the “long way around” so that he would be better prepared for his role.

When God led the Israelites out of Egypt (EXODUS 13:17–18), He chose a longer way because the “shortcut” to Canaan was fraught with risk. 

The longer journey, note Bible commentators, also gave them more time to strengthen themselves physically, mentally, and spiritually for subsequent battles.

The shortest way isn’t always the best. Sometimes God lets us take the longer route in life, whether it’s in our career or other endeavors, so that we’ll be better prepared for the journey ahead. When things don’t seem to happen quickly enough, we can trust in God—the One who leads and guides us. 

How might God be strengthening you by letting you take the “longer way” in life? 

How can you remind yourself to keep trusting Him?

< Loving God, You know how I feel when things don’t seem to happen quickly enough. Grant me the patience to trust in You and in Your sovereign plan and purpose. >

17. When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, though that was shorter. For God said, "If they face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt."

18. So God led the people around by the desert road toward the Red Sea. 

The Israelites went up out of Egypt armed for battle.
