하나님만큼 큰 사랑
♡ 마태복음 5:43 - 5:48
“너희가 너희를 사랑하는 자를 사랑하면 무슨 상이 있으리요”
마태복음 5:46
나는 도미니카 공화국의 산토 도밍고라는 가난한 동네를 방문한 적이 있다. 집들은 주름진 철판으로 만들어졌고, 그 위로 전기가 통하는 전선들이 매달려 있었다.
거기서 나는 가족들을 면담하며 교회가 어떻게 실업과 마약, 범죄와 싸우는 것을 돕고 있는지 듣는 특별한 시간을 가졌다.
한 골목길에서 나는 한 엄마와 아들을 면담하기 위해 위태위태한 사다리를 타고 올라갔다.
그러나 곧 어떤 사람이 서둘러 올라와서는 “빨리 떠나야 한다”고 말했다.
커다란 칼을 쓰는 갱 두목이 우리를 습격하려고 폭도들을 모으고 있었던 것이다.
우리는 두 번째 마을을 방문했지만, 그곳에서는 아무런 문제가 없었다.
나중에 왜 그런지 알게 되었는데, 우리가 매번 집을 방문할 때마다, 한 갱단의 두목이 밖에 서서 우리를 지켜주고 있었던 것이다.
알고 보니 그의 딸이 교회에서 음식과 교육을 제공받고 있었고 교회의 성도들이 딸의 편이 되어주었기에 그도 우리의 편이 되어준 것이다.
산상수훈에서 예수님은 비교할 수 없는 사랑의 기준을 제시 하신다.
그런 사랑은 ‘사랑받을 만한’ 사람뿐만 아니라 그럴 가치가 없는 사람들 (마 5:43-45),
가족과 친구사이를 넘어, 사랑을 돌려줄 수도 없고 돌려주지도 않을 사람들까지(46-47절) 품는 사랑이다.
이것이 하나님만큼 큰 사랑이며(48절) 모든 이들을 축복하는 사랑이다.
산토 도밍고의 성도들이 이런 사랑을 삶으로 나누면서 이웃들이 바뀌기 시작했다.
그런 사랑으로 말미암아 굳은 마음들이 녹아내리고 있다.
하나님만큼 큰 사랑이 도시에 나타날 때 바로 그런 일들이 일어난다.
사람의 사랑과 하나님의 사랑의 차이를 어떻게 표현할 수 있을까?
당신은 오늘 , 사랑을 돌려줄 수 없는 그 누구를 축복하겠는가?
< 예수님, 주님의 사랑을 제게 부어주셔서 다른 사람들에게, 그리고 보답할 수 없는 사람들에게까지 그 사랑을 부어줄 수 있게 하소서. >
44. 나는 너희에게 이르노니 너희 원수를 사랑하며 너희를 박해하는 자를 위하여 기도하라
45. 이같이 한즉 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지의 아들이 되리니 이는 하나님이 그 해를 악인과 선인에게 비추시며 비를 의로운 자와 불의한 자에게 내려주심이라
46. 너희가 너희를 사랑하는 자를 사랑하면 무슨 상이 있으리요 세리도 이같이 아니하느냐
47. 또 너희가 너희 형제에게만 문안하면 남보다 더하는 것이 무엇이냐 이방인들도 이같이 아니하느냐
48. 그러므로 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지의 온전하심과 같이 너희도 온전하라
God-Sized Love

“If you love those who love you, what reward will you get?”

I once visited an impoverished neighborhood of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. Homes were made of corrugated iron, with electrical wires dangling live above them.
There I had the privilege of interviewing families and hearing how churches were helping to combat
unemployment, drug use, and crime.
In one alleyway I climbed a rickety ladder to a small room to interview a mother and her son. But just a moment later someone rushed up, saying, “We must leave now.”
A machete-wielding gang leader was apparently gathering a mob to ambush us.
We visited a second neighborhood, but there we had no problem.
Later I discovered why.
As I visited each home, a gang leader stood outside guarding us.
It turned out his daughter was being fed and educated by the church, and because believers were standing by her, he stood by us.
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus presents a standard of love that’s beyond comparison.
This kind of love embraces not just the “worthy” but the undeserving (MATTHEW 5:43–45), reaching beyond family and friends to touch those who can’t or won’t love us back (VV. 46–47).
This is God-sized love (V. 48)—the kind that blesses everyone.
As believers in Santo Domingo live out this love, neighborhoods are starting to change.
Tough hearts are warming to their cause. That’s what happens when God-sized love comes to town.

44. But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
45. that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
46. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that?
47. And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that?
48. Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
