Brief As A Flower
"As for man, his days are like grass; as a flower of the field, so he flourishes. For the wind passes over it, and it is gone."
(Psalm 103:15-16)
Years ago, a young boy wandered from case to case in a candy store, trying to decide what to buy. His mother, tired of waiting, called, "Hurry up and spend your money! We must be going." To this he replied, "But Mom, I only have one penny, so I've got to spend it carefully."
So too, we have only one life to live, so we must "spend it carefully!" If we had ten lives, we might be able to afford to spend one of them merely on pleasure or in making money.
In underscoring the brevity of life, the Bible uses many illustrations, among them that of a flower (Psalm 103:15-16). A flower is a thing of loveliness. As a receptacle of nectar, it usually gives forth a pleasing aroma and performs a necessary function in the production of new seed. But what strikes me most about a flower is that its beauty is so brief!
Because our days on earth are few, we should make the most of our "flowering time." The nectar of the love of God in our heart should attract people to the Savior. Our life should be colorful with spiritual service, remembering that we are allowed to bloom for the express purpose of bringing forth new seed (leading others to Christ).

꽃처럼 짧은 인생
“인생은 그 날이 풀과 같으며 그 영화가 들의 꽃과 같도다 그것은 바람이 지나면 없어지나니” (시편 103:15-16)
● 말씀을 생각하며 ●
오래 전에 한 어린 소년이 사탕가게에서 무엇을 살지 정하려고 진열대 사이를 왔다 갔다 하고 있었습니다. 기다리다 지쳐버린 그의 어머니가 “서둘러 사거라! 우린 가야 한단다 " 라고 소리질렀습니다. 이에 그는 “하지만 엄마,내겐 일 페니밖에 없어서 잘 생각해서 써야 해요”라고 대답했습니다.
그 소년과 마찬가지로 우리에게도 살아갈 수 있는 인생이 한번 뿐이기에 “잘 생각해서 써야” 합니다! 만약 우리가 열 번의 인생을 살 수 있다면,한 번 정도는 쾌락이나 돈을 벌기 위해 써도 괜찮을지 모르겠습니다.
인생이 짧다는 것을 강조하기 위해 성경은 많은 예를 드는데 그 중의 하나가 꽃입니다 (시 103:15-16).
꽃은 사랑스러움을 나타냅니다. 꿀 저장고인 꽃은 언제나 좋은 향기를 품어내며 새로운 씨를 생산하는 데 필요한 작용을 합니다.
그러나 꽃에 대하여 내게 가장 많이 떠오르는 생각은 그 아름다움이 매우 짧다는 것입니다!
우리가 세상에 있는 날도 얼마 되지 않으므로 우리는 우리의 “개화기”를 최대로 활용해야 합니다. 우리 마음 속에 있는 하나님의 사랑의 꿀로 사람들을 구주에게로 인도해야 합니다. 우리는 새 씨를 낳기 위한 (다른 사람들을 그리스도께 인도하는) 확실한 목적을 위해 꽃피우도록 허락 받았음을 상기하면서 우리의 삶을 영적인 헌신으로 아름답게 장식해야 할 것입니다.

예수님을 위해 진실한 삶을 삽니다
내가 하는 모든 일로 주님을 기쁘시게 하렵니다.
자유롭고 기쁜 마음으로 주님께 충성하는 것, 이것이 내가 축복 받는 통로입니다.
