Dangerous Crossings
"Your way was in the sea, Your path in the great waters, and Your footsteps were not known."
(Psalm 77:19)
I don't wade in swift streams anymore. The bottom's too slippery, the current's too strong, and my old legs aren't what they used to be.
So many challenges that I once took on readily are now too difficult for me. Like the psalmist, I lose sleep sometimes, wondering how I can negotiate them (Psalm 77:1-4).
Then I remember the "works of the Lord," His "wonders of old" (v.11). His "way was in the sea, [His] path in the great waters," though He left no footprints behind (v.19).
That's the way it is with God. Although you can't see Him, He is surely there. Unseen, He leads His people "like a flock" (v.20). He does not fear the currents and storms of life, for His strength and courage are infinite.
And there's more: The Shepherd leads us through the help of other people. He led Israel "by the hand of Moses and Aaron" (v.20). He leads us in the wise counsel of a father or mother, in the strong grip of a godly friend, in the loving encouragement of a caring husband or wife, in the gentle touch of a young child.
Good hands are reaching out to us. Our Lord is a tough and tender Shepherd who leads through perilous crossings to the other side. Have you put your hand in His hand?

위험한 교차로
“주의 길이 바다에 있었고 주의 첩경이 큰 물에 있었으나 주의 종적을 알 수 없었나이다” (시편 77:19)
● 말씀을 묵상하며 ●
나는 이제 물살이 빠른 개울에는 들어가지 않습니다. 개울 바닥이 너무 미끄럽고 물살은 너무 센데 나의 늙은 다리는 예전 같지가 않기 때문입니다.
한때는 여러 가지 도전도 쉽게 시작하였었지만 이제는 나에게 그것이 너무 어려운 일이 되었습니다. 나도 때로는 시편기자처럼 어떻게 그 과제들을 헤쳐 나갈지 걱정하느라 잠 못 이룰 때가 있습니다 (시 77:1-4).
그런 때에는 “여호와의 행하신 일, 하나님의 옛적 기사” (11절)를 상기합니다. 주님은 발자취를 남기지 않으셨으나 “주의 길이 바다에 있었고 주의 첩경이 큰 물에 있었다” (19절)고 하였습니다.
하나님은 그렇게 하십니다. 우리는 하나님을 볼 수 없어도 그분은 확실히 그곳에 계십니다. 보이지 않는 하나님은 그의 백성들을 “양무리 같이”(20절) 인도하십니다. 주님은 힘과 용기가 무한하시기 때문에 인생의 격류나 폭풍우를 두려워하지 않으십니다.
그리고 또 있습니다. 목자이신 주님은 다른 사람들의 도움을 통해 우리를 인도하십니다. 주님은 이스라엘 백성들을 “모세와 아론의 손으로 ”(20절) 인도하셨습니다. 주님은 우리를 아버지와 어머니의 지혜로운 가르침을 통해서, 강하게 붙들어 주는 경건한 친구를 통해서, 상대를 아껴주는 남편이나 아내의 사랑어린 격려로, 그리고 어린 아이의 부드러운 손길을 통해서 인도하십니다.
선한 손길들이 우리에게 뻗치고 있습니다. 우리의 주님은 우리를 위험한 교차로를 건너갈 수 있게 인도하시는 강하면서도 부드러운 목자이십니다. 당신은 그분에게 손을 내어드렸습니까?
