 The Unseen World

" The Angel of the LORD [was] standing in the way. "
( Numbers 22:23 )

Did you know that the microbes on just one of your hands outnumber all of the people on the earth? Or that millions of microbes could fit into the eye of a needle? These one-celled, living organisms are too small for us to see without a microscope, yet they live in the air, soil, water, and even in our bodies. We constantly interact with them, even though their world is completely beyond our senses.

The realities of the spiritual world are also often not visible to us humans, as the prophet Balaam discovered. He was trudging along the road with his two servants when his donkey “saw the Angel of the Lord standing in the way with His drawn sword in His hand”(Num.22:23).
To avoid the angel, the animal walked into a field, crushed Balaam’s foot against a wall, and lay down with Balaam still on her back. Balaam was angry and struck the donkey. He didn’t realize something supernatural was going on─until God opened his eyes (v.31).

The Bible tells us that a spiritual world does exist, and we may sometimes encoun-ter realities from that realm─both good and bad (Heb. 13:2; Eph. 6:12). Because of this, we are encouraged to be watchful, prayerful, and prepared. Just as God rules the world we see, He also rules the unseen world.

Heavenly Father, help us to be strong in You
and in the power of Your might. Open our eyes so that we may see the spiritual realities
You have for us.
All that is seen and unseen is under God’s sovereign power.

Numbers 22:21-31

[21] So Balaam rose in the morning, saddled his donkey, and went with the princes of Moab.
[22] Then God's anger was aroused because he went, and the Angel of the LORD took His stand in the way as an adversary against him. And he was riding on his donkey, and his two servants were with him.
[23] Now the donkey saw the Angel of the LORD standing in the way with His drawn sword in His hand, and the donkey turned aside out of the way and went into the field. So Balaam struck the donkey to turn her back onto the road.
[24] Then the Angel of the LORD stood in a narrow path between the vineyards, with a wall on this side and a wall on that side.
[25] And when the donkey saw the Angel of the LORD, she pushed herself against the wall and crushed Balaam's foot against the wall; so he struck her again.
[26] Then the Angel of the LORD went further, and stood in a narrow place where there was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left.
[27] And when the donkey saw the Angel of the LORD, she lay down under Balaam; so Balaam's anger was aroused, and he struck the donkey with his staff.
[28] Then the LORD opened the mouth of the donkey, and she said to Balaam, "What have I done to you, that you have struck me these three times?"
[29] And Balaam said to the donkey, "Because you have abused me. I wish there were a sword in my hand, for now I would kill you!"
[30] So the donkey said to Balaam, "Am I not your donkey on which you have ridden, ever since I became yours, to this day? Was I ever disposed to do this to you?" And he said, "No."
[31] Then the LORD opened Balaam's eyes, and he saw the Angel of the LORD standing in the way with His drawn sword in His hand; and he bowed his head and fell flat on his face.

 보이지 않는 세계

말씀 읽기 :
민수기 22:21 - 22:31

" 여호와의 사자가…길에 선 것을 보고 "( 민수기 22:23 )

당신의 한쪽 손에 붙은 미생물들의 숫자가 지구상의 모든 사람들의 숫자보다 더 많다는 것을 아십니까? 아니면 그 수백만의 미생물들이 바늘구멍 하나에 다 들어간다는 것을 아시는지요?
이 살아 있는 단세포 생물들은 현미경 없이는 볼 수 없지만, 그것들은 공기나 흙, 물, 심지어 우리 몸속에서도 살고 있습니다. 비록 그들의 세계를 우리가 전혀 느끼지 못해도 우리는 끊임없이 그들과 상호작용을 하고 있습니다.

예언자 발람의 경우에서처럼, 영적인 세계에서 일어나는 일들은 종종 우리 인간들에게는 보이지 않습니다.
발람이 그의 두 하인과 함께 길을 느릿느릿 걸어가고 있을 때 그의 나귀가 여호와의 사자가 칼을 빼어 손에 들고 길에 선 것을 보았습니다(민 22:23).
나귀는 천사를 피하려고 길을 비켜 밭으로 들어가고, 발람의 발을 그 담에 짓누른 후 그를 등에 태운 채로 엎드렸습니다. 그러자 발람은 노하여 나귀를 때렸습니다. 그는 하나님이 그의 눈을 밝히실 때까지 무슨 초자연적인 일이 일어나고 있는지를 알지 못했습니다(31절).

성경은 우리에게 영적인 세계는 실제로 존재하고 있으며, 때로 우리는 그 세계에서 일어나는 일들을 좋은 일이든 나쁜 일이든 모두 다 접할 수 있다고 말합니다(히 13:2; 엡 6:12).
그렇기 때문에 우리는 깨어 기도하며 준비하고 있으라는 권고를 받습니다.
하나님은 우리가 보는 이 세계를 다스리시듯이 보이지 않는 세계도 다스리고 계십니다.


하늘에 계신 아버지, 하나님 안에서,
하나님의 권능 안에서 우리를 강하게 해주소서.
우리의 눈을 열어 하나님이 우리를 위해 지으신
영적인 세계를 볼 수 있게 해주소서.

< 보이는 것이나 보이지 않는 것이나 모두 하나님의 다스리는 권세 아래 있다. >

민수기 22:21-31

[21] 발람이 아침에 일어나서 자기 나귀에 안장을 지우고 모압 고관들과 함께 가니
[22] 그가 감으로 말미암아 하나님이 진노하시므로 여호와의 사자가 그를 막으려고 길에 서니라 발람은 자기 나귀를 탔고 그의 두 종은 그와 함께 있더니
[23] 나귀가 여호와의 사자가 칼을 빼어 손에 들고 길에 선 것을 보고 길에서 벗어나 밭으로 들어간지라 발람이 나귀를 길로 돌이키려고 채찍질하니
[24] 여호와의 사자는 포도원 사이 좁은 길에 섰고 좌우에는 담이 있더라
[25] 나귀가 여호와의 사자를 보고 몸을 담에 대고 발람의 발을 그 담에 짓누르매 발람이 다시 채찍질하니
[26] 여호와의 사자가 더 나아가서 좌우로 피할 데 없는 좁은 곳에 선지라
[27] 나귀가 여호와의 사자를 보고 발람 밑에 엎드리니 발람이 노하여 자기 지팡이로 나귀를 때리는지라
[28] 여호와께서 나귀 입을 여시니 발람에게 이르되 내가 당신에게 무엇을 하였기에 나를 이같이 세 번을 때리느냐
[29] 발람이 나귀에게 말하되 네가 나를 거역하기 때문이니 내 손에 칼이 있었더면 곧 너를 죽였으리라
[30] 나귀가 발람에게 이르되 나는 당신이 오늘까지 당신의 일생 동안 탄 나귀가 아니냐 내가 언제 당신에게 이같이 하는 버릇이 있었더냐 그가 말하되 없었느니라
[31] 그 때에 여호와께서 발람의 눈을 밝히시매 여호와의 사자가 손에 칼을 빼들고 길에 선 것을 그가 보고 머리를 숙이고 엎드리니
