The Word of God comes to us in many forms. Bible-centered preaching, scri-pture reading, songs, study groups, and devotional articles bring to us the truths of God from scri-pture.
But we can’t overlook personal reading and studying either.

My heart has recently been touched by a careful, paragraph-by-paragraph study of Deuteronomy alongside the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5–7.
Both passages contain codes of belief: The Ten Commandments (Deut.5:6-21) and the Beatitudes (Matt. 5:3-12).
Deuteronomy shows us the old covenant─the law God wanted His people to follow.
In Matthew, Jesus shows us how He has come to fulfill that law and establish the principles of the new covenant, which frees us from the burden of the law.

The Holy Spirit comes alongside the Word of God to teach, empower, instruct, convict, and purify us. The result is understanding, repentance, renewal, and growth in Jesus. Theologian Philip Jacob Spener wrote: “The more at home the Word of God is among us, the more we will bring about faith and its fruits.”
Let’s pray with the psalmist: “Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things from Your law”so that we might live it out in our lives (Ps.119:18). — David Egner

Psalm 119:17-24

[17] Deal bountifully with Your servant, That I may live and keep Your word.
[18] Open my eyes, that I may see Wondrous things from Your law.
[19] I am a stranger in the earth; Do not hide Your commandments from me.
[20] My soul breaks with longing For Your judgments at all times.
[21] You rebuke the proud--the cursed, Who stray from Your commandments.
[22] Remove from me reproach and contempt, For I have kept Your testimonies.
[23] Princes also sit and speak against me, But Your servant meditates on Your statutes.
[24] Your testimonies also are my delight And my counselors.

 우리 안에 거하는 말씀

말씀 읽기 :
시편 119:17 - 119:24

" 주의 증거들은 나의 즐거움이요 나의 충고자니이다 "
( 시편 119:24 )

하나님의 말씀은 여러 모습으로 우리에게 다가옵니다.
성경중심의 설교, 성경읽기, 찬송가, 성경공부 모임, 그리고 신앙관련 글들이 성경에 있는 하나님의 진리들을 우리에게 깨닫게 해줍니다.
그러나 나 혼자만의 성경읽기나 성경공부도 간과할 수 없습니다.

최근 나는 마태복음 5장부터 7장에 있는 산상수훈과 신명기를 한 문단씩 자세히 비교해 공부하면서 깊은 감명을 받았습니다.
두 말씀은 각각 십계명(신 5:6-21)과 팔복(마 5:3-12)이라는 믿음의 법을 담고 있습니다.
신명기는 하나님이 그의 백성들이 따르기를 원했던 율법, 즉 옛 언약을 보여주고, 마태복음은 예수님이 그 율법을 완성하고, 율법의 굴레로부터 우리를 자유롭게 하는 새 언약의 원리를 세우시기 위해 오셨다는 것을 보여줍니다.

성령은 하나님의 말씀과 함께 오셔서 우리를 가르치시고, 능력 주시며, 교훈하시고, 죄를 깨닫게 하시며, 우리를 정결하게 하십니다.
그 결과 우리는 예수님 안에서 깨닫게 되어 회개하고 새로워져서 성장하게 됩니다.
신학자 필립 제이콥 스펜서는 “하나님의 말씀이 우리 안에 더 많이 거할수록 우리의 믿음과 이의 열매들이 더 많이 자랄 것이다.”라고 썼습니다.
우리의 삶에서 말씀을 실천하며 살 수 있도록 시편기자처럼 이렇게 기도합시다. “내 눈을 열어서 주의 율법에서 놀라운 것을 보게 하소서”(시 119:18).


“하늘에 계신 아버지, 주님 앞에 저희가 엎드립니다.
우리 주 예수 그리스도를 통해 주의 말씀이 우리의 법과 길잡이가
되게 해주시고, 주의 성령이 우리의 교사가 되게 하시며,
하나님의 더 큰 영광이 우리의 최고의 관심사가 되게 하소서. 아멘.”

[17] 주의 종을 후대하여 살게 하소서 그리하시면 주의 말씀을 지키리이다
[18] 내 눈을 열어서 주의 율법에서 놀라운 것을 보게 하소서
[19] 나는 땅에서 나그네가 되었사오니 주의 계명들을 내게 숨기지 마소서
[20] 주의 규례들을 항상 사모함으로 내 마음이 상하나이다
[21] 교만하여 저주를 받으며 주의 계명들에서 떠나는 자들을 주께서 꾸짖으셨나이다
[22] 내가 주의 교훈들을 지켰사오니 비방과 멸시를 내게서 떠나게 하소서
[23] 고관들도 앉아서 나를 비방하였사오나 주의 종은 주의 율례들을 작은 소리로 읊조렸나이다
