♣ 말씀 묵상 : 갈라디아서 4:1 - 4:7 

" 하나님이 그의 아들을 보내사…우리로 아들의 명분을 얻게 하려 하심이라 "(갈라디아서 4:4-5 )

어느 자선가가 집 없는 아이들을 위하여 고아원을 지어준다고 하면 참 기쁩니다. 게다가  더 나아가 그 고아들 중 하나를 입양할 때면 설렐 정도로 기쁩니다. 대부분의 고아들은 후원자가 생기는 것만으로도 반가운 일입니다. 그런데 그 후원자가 단지 나를 도와주는 데 그치지않고 ‘나를 원한다’는 것을 알게 될 때 어떤 기분일까요?

만약 당신이 하나님의 자녀라면 이미 알고 있을 것입니다. 이미 경험했을 테니까요. 하나님이 단순히 자기 아들을 보내어 우리가 “멸망하지 않고 영생을 얻게”(요 3:16) 하실 정도로만 우리를 사랑하셨다 해도 우리는 불평할 수 없습니다. 우리는 그것으로 충분하기 때문입니다. 그러나 하나님에게는 충분하지 않았습니다. 하나님은 우리를 “속량하시기 위해 그의 아들을 보내셨”는데, 그것은 그 자체에 목적이 있는 게 아니라, “우리로 아들의 명분을 얻게 하려”(갈 4:4-5)는 데 있었습니다.

사도 바울은 우리를 “아들”이라고 말했습니다. 이는 그 당시에는 아들이 아버지의 유산을 물려받는 것이 흔한 일이었기 때문입니다. 그가 말하고자 한 요점은 지금 예수님을 믿는 사람은 누구나 남자든 여자든 상관없이 똑같이 유산을 이어받을 권리를 가진 ‘아들’이 된다는 것입니다(7절).

하나님은 단순히 우리를 ‘구원하는’ 것만 바라시지 않고 바로 우리 자신을 ‘원하십니다.’ 하나님은 우리를 양자 삼아서 하나님의 가족으로 맞아들이시고 우리에게 그분의 이름을 주시며(계 3:12), 우리를 그분의 자녀로 보란 듯이 불러주십니다. 당신은 이보다 더 권위 있는 사람에게, 이보다 더 큰 사랑을 받아 본 적이 없을 것입니다. 당신은 하나님의 축복만을 받은 사람이 아니라, 이제 하나님의 ‘자녀’입니다. 하나님 아버지께서 당신을 사랑하십니다.

하나님 아버지, 제가 이렇게 아버지라고 부를 수 있는 특권을 누리다니요! 저를 구원하시고 저를 원하시니 감사합니다.

"God sent his Son...that we might receive adoption to sonship."
(Galatians 4:4-5)

I’m glad when a philanthropist builds an orphanage for homeless children. I’m thrilled when that person gives even more and adopts one of them. Most orphans would be delighted merely to have a patron. But then to learn the sponsor isn’t

content merely to help me but also wants me. How must that feel?

If you’re a child of God you already know, because it’s happened to you. We couldn’t complain if God had merely loved us enough to send His Son that we might “not perish but have eternal life” (JOHN 3:16). 

It would be enough for us. But not for God. He “sent his Son . . . to redeem” us,

not as an end in itself, but “that we might receive adoption to sonship” 

(GALATIANS 4:4–5).

The apostle Paul refers to us as “sons” because in his day it was common for sons to inherit their father’s wealth. His point is that now everyone who puts their faith in Jesus, whether man or woman, becomes a “son” of God with equal and full rights of inheritance (V . 7).

God does not merely want to save you. He wants you. He has adopted you into His family, given you His name (REVELATION 3:12), and proudly calls you His child. You could not possibly be loved more, or by anyone more important. You aren’t merely blessed by God. You are the child of God. Your Father loves you.

Father, what a privilege to call You this! Thank You for saving me, and for wanting me.

<You are more than saved. You are loved.>
