"You are ... mighty in work, for Your eyes are open to all the ways of the sons of men."
(Jeremiah 32:19)

When something big happens-a blessing or a tragedy-we recognize it immediately and respond with praise or pleadings to God.
When we find a long-sought-after job, hear of a loved one coming to Christ, or get bad news from the doctor, we think of God and turn to Him. But in the little things-the routine, the mundane, the details-it's easy for us to overlook that He is working (Jeremiah 32:19).

God is at work in the big and little things of the forest too. The big stuff, which is visible and colorful, is called duff-the partly decayed organic matter of leaves and sticks that covers the forest floor. But if you rake back the duff, you will find all sorts of important little things happening. The soil is rich and dark, and smells of life. It is filled with tiny plants, insects, and a variety of fungi.

There under the duff they are performing an important function, for with them God is building the future forest.

The Lord works similarly with His people. Of course His eyes are on the big issues of life. But He's also at work "under the duff" through our everyday activities, preparing us for the significant tasks He has planned for us.

So when the mundane gets you down, thank God for what's under the duff.

 낙엽더미

"주는....행사에 능하시며 인류의 모든 길에 주목하시며" (예레미야 32:19)

● 말씀을 생각하며 ●
축복이든 비극이든 어떤 큰 일이 일어나 면 우리는 곧 이를 인식하고 하나님께 찬양 하거나 간청을 드립니다. 오랫동안 기다리던 일자리를 찾거나, 아끼는 사람이 그리스도께로 나왔다는 소식을 듣거나, 또 의사에게서 좋지 않은 소식을 들었거나 하면 우리는 하나님을 생각하고 하나님께로 나갑니다. 그러나 우리는 작은 일들, 즉 일상적인 일이나 보통 있는 일, 사소한 일들에도 하 나님이 역사하고 계신 것을 지나쳐 버리기 쉽습니다 (렘 32:19).

하나님께서는 숲 속에서도 큰 것과 작은 것에 같이 역사하십니다. 숲의 바닥을 덮고 있는 부분적으로 썩은 잎과 나뭇가지들로 이루어진, 쉽게 눈에 띄고 다양한 색깔을 지닌 썩은 낙엽더미가 숲에서 큰 부분 인 것입니다. 그런데 이 낙엽을 긁어내면, 그 밑에는 여러 가지의 작지만 중요한 일들이 일어나고 있습니다.
흙은 검고 비옥하며, 생명의 냄새를 풍겨 줍니다. 이 흙에는 작은 식물들과 벌레들, 그리고 여러 가지 곰팡이들로 가득 차 있습니다. 이 낙엽 밑에서 그것들은 중요한 일을 하고 있는데, 하나님께서 이들과 더불어 미래의 숲을 만들고 계시기 때문입니다.

주님은 자기 백성들에게도 이와 비슷하게 역사하십니다. 물론 주님의 눈동자는 우리 인생의 큰일들을 주목하고 계십니다. 그러나 주님은 우리의 일상 생활 속의 "낙엽더미 밑에" 있는 일들 안에서도 역사하시며, 우리를 위해 계획하신 큰일을 위해서 우리를 준비시키고 계십니다.

그러므로 일상적인 일로 지쳐 있을 때, 낙엽더미 밑의 것들에 대해서 하나님께 감사하십시오.

모든 일에 감사 드리고
"당신의 뜻이 이루어지소서"라고 할 수 있으니
이는 하나님이 모든 일에 역사하시어
우리를 자기 아들 같이 만드심이라
