 ✝  에베소서 4:20-32
"오직 너희의 심령이 새롭게 되어" [에베소서 4:23]

집 내부를 새롭게 단장하려고 할 때였습니다. 방에 페인트 칠을 하려고 준비하고 있던 바로 그때 주 정부가 코로나바이러스 대유행 때문에 집 수리에 필요한 여러 자재들의 판매가 곧 중지될 예정이라고 발표했습니다. 그 발표를 듣자마자 가게로 달려가 필요한 물품들을 구입했습니다. 적절한 물품이 없으면 리모델링을 할 수 없습니다.

바울이 에베소서 4장을 쓸 때 어느 정도는 리모델링 프로젝트를 염두에 두고 있었습니다. 그러나 바울이 말했던 변화는 겉모습의 변화를 훨씬 넘어서는 것이었습니다. 우리가 예수님을 구주로 믿어 새로운 피조물이 된다고 하지만, 여전히 성령님이 하셔야 할 일이 남아 있습니다. 성령님이 “의와 진리의 거룩함” (에베소서 4:24)을 이루기 위해서는 많은 시간과 사역이 필요합니다.

성령님의 임재는 우리 내면에 필요한 변화를 일으켜 우리의 말과 행동으로 예수님을 드러내도록 도움을 줍니다. 성령님은 우리가 거짓을 버리고 “참된 것을” 말하도록 도우시고(25절), 분을 내도 죄를 짓지 않도록 인도하시며(26 절), 우리가 “덕을 세우는 데 소용되는” 말을 하도록 지도해 주십니다(29절). 성령님에 의한 이런 행동들은 우리 내면의 변화를 보여주는 것으로, 친절과 연민, 용서(32절)와 같은 모습 속에서 그것을 분명히 알 수 있습니다. 성령님은 우리가 예수님을 닮고 우리 하나님 아버지의 마음을 드러낼 수 있도록 우리 안에서 역사하십니다(24절; 5:1).

성령님의 인도하심과 능력을 힘입어 진정으로 마음 깊이 개선하고 싶은 부분은 무엇입니까? 그러기 위해 어떻게 시작하려고 하십니까?

<사랑의 하나님, 저를 그리스도 안에서 새로운 피조물로 만들어 주셔서 감사합니다. 하나님께서 저를 변화시킨 것을 보여주며 행동할 수 있도록 저를 인도해 주소서.>

20.  오직 너희는 그리스도를 그같이 배우지 아니하였느니라 21.  진리가 예수 안에 있는 것 같이 너희가 참으로 그에게서 듣고 또한 그 안에서 가르침을 받았을진대 22.  너희는 유혹의 욕심을 따라 썩어져 가는 구습을 따르는 옛 사람을 벗어 버리고 23.  오직 너희의 심령이 새롭게 되어 24.  하나님을 따라 의와 진리의 거룩함으로 지으심을 받은 새 사람을 입으라 25.  그런즉 거짓을 버리고 각각 그 이웃과 더불어 참된 것을 말하라 이는 우리가 서로 지체가 됨이라 26.  분을 내어도 죄를 짓지 말며 해가 지도록 분을 품지 말고 27.  마귀에게 틈을 주지 말라 28.  도둑질하는 자는 다시 도둑질하지 말고 돌이켜 가난한 자에게 구제할 수 있도록 자기 손으로 수고하여 선한 일을 하라 29.  무릇 더러운 말은 너희 입 밖에도 내지 말고 오직 덕을 세우는 데 소용되는 대로 선한 말을 하여 듣는 자들에게 은혜를 끼치게 하라 30.  하나님의 성령을 근심하게 하지 말라 그 안에서 너희가 구원의 날까지 인치심을 받았느니라 31.  너희는 모든 악독과 노함과 분냄과 떠드는 것과 비방하는 것을 모든 악의와 함께 버리고 32.  서로 친절하게 하며 불쌍히 여기며 서로 용서하기를 하나님이 그리스도 안에서 너희를 용서하심과 같이 하라

 

💙 Fix Up Time

"Be made new in the attitude of your minds." [ EPHESIANS 4:23 ]

It was time to give the inside of our home a fresh, new look. But just as I’d begun prepping a room for painting, our state government announced it would be halting the sale of many home improvement items due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As soon as I heard the announcement, I rushed to the store and purchased the essential materials. You simply can’t remodel without the proper supplies.

Paul had a bit of a remodeling project in mind when he wrote Ephesians 4. But the changes he was talking about went far beyond superficial alterations. Even though trusting Jesus as Savior makes us a new creation, there’s still some ongoing work the Spirit needs to do. And it takes time and work for Him to accomplish “true righteousness and holiness” (EPHESIANS 4:24).

The presence of the Spirit makes needed changes on the inside that can help us reflect Jesus in our words and actions. He helps us replace lying with speaking “truthfully” (V. 25). He guides us to avoid sin in regard to anger (V. 26). And He directs us to speak words that are “helpful for building others up” (V. 29). These Spirit-controlled actions are part of the internal change that’s manifested in things like kindness, compassion, and forgiveness (V. 32). The Spirit works in us to enable us to imitate Jesus Himself and reflect the heart of our heavenly Father (V. 24; 5:1). DAVE BRANON

20.  You, however, did not come to know Christ that way. 21.  Surely you heard of him and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. 22.  You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23.  to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24.  and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. 25.  Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body. 26.  "In your anger do not sin": Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27.  and do not give the devil a foothold. 28.  He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with his own hands, that he may have something to share with those in need. 29.  Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. 30.  And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31.  Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. 32.  Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
