💙 내부로부터 무너짐

 ✝  시편 32:1-5; 마태복음 7:1-5

"내가 이르기를 내 허물을 여호와께 자복하리라 하고… 곧 주께서 내 죄악을 사하셨나이다."[시편 32:5]

나의 십대 시절 엄마가 거실의 벽에 벽화를 그리셨는데, 그 그림은 몇 년 동안 계속 그 자리에 있었습니다. 거기에는 양쪽에 뉘어 있는 흰 기둥과 무너진 분수, 그리고 부서진 동상이 있는 폐허가 된 고대 그리스의 신전이 그려져 있었습니다. 한때 상당한 아름다움을 지녔었던 그 헬레니즘 건축물을 보면서 나는 무엇 때문에 그렇게 파괴됐는지를 상상해 보았습니다. 한때 위대하고 번성했던 문명이 ‘내부’로부터 쇠퇴하고 무너지게 된 비극에 대해 공부를 시작하면서 그것이 더욱 궁금했습니다.

오늘날 우리 주변에서 볼 수 있는 죄로 타락한 모습들과 무모한 파괴행위들을 보면 속이 상합니다. 우리는 자연스럽게 하나님을 거부한 사람들과 나라들 때문이라고 그 이유를 설명하려고 합니다. 하지만 우리의 내면 또한 들여다봐야 하지 않을까요? 성경말씀은 자신의 내면을 깊이 들여다보지 않으면서 다른 이들의 회개만을 촉구하는 위선자의 모습을 우리에게 경고하고 있습니다(마태복음 7:1-5).

시편 32편은 자신의 죄를 보고 고백하라고 우리에게 도전을 주고 있습니다. 우리는 자신의 죄를 깨닫고 고백할 때 비로소 죄책감에서 자유롭게 되고 참된 회개의 기쁨을 누릴 수 있습니다(1-5절). 하나님께서 우리에게 완전한 용서를 주신다는 사실이 기쁨으로 다가올 때 죄와 싸우고 있는 다른 이들에게도 그 희망을 전해줄 수 있습니다.

우리의 삶에 죄가 있음을 인정하는 첫 단계가 무엇입니까? 죄를 하나님께 고백하는 것이 왜 중요할까요?

<하나님 아버지, 나의 죄를 씻기는 용서의 선물을 주셔서 감사합니다. 다른 사람들의 죄를 걱정하기보다 먼저 나의 마음을 살피게 하소서.>

1.  허물의 사함을 받고 자신의 죄가 가려진 자는 복이 있도다 2.  마음에 간사함이 없고 여호와께 정죄를 당하지 아니하는 자는 복이 있도다 3.  내가 입을 열지 아니할 때에 종일 신음하므로 내 뼈가 쇠하였도다 4.  주의 손이 주야로 나를 누르시오니 내 진액이 빠져서 여름 가뭄에 마름 같이 되었나이다 (셀라) 5.  내가 이르기를 내 허물을 여호와께 자복하리라 하고 주께 내 죄를 아뢰고 내 죄악을 숨기지 아니하였더니 곧 주께서 내 죄악을 사하셨나이다 (셀라) 1.  비판을 받지 아니하려거든 비판하지 말라 2.  너희가 비판하는 그 비판으로 너희가 비판을 받을 것이요 너희가 헤아리는 그 헤아림으로 너희가 헤아림을 받을 것이니라 3.  어찌하여 형제의 눈 속에 있는 티는 보고 네 눈 속에 있는 들보는 깨닫지 못하느냐 4.  보라 네 눈 속에 들보가 있는데 어찌하여 형제에게 말하기를 나로 네 눈 속에 있는 티를 빼게 하라 하겠느냐 5.  외식하는 자여 먼저 네 눈 속에서 들보를 빼어라 그 후에야 밝히 보고 형제의 눈 속에서 티를 빼리라

 

💙 Crumbled From Within

 ✝  Psalm 32:1-5; Matthew 7:1-5

I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.” And you forgave the guilt of my sin. [ PSALM 32:5 ]

When I was a teenager, my mom painted a mural on our living room wall, which stayed there for several years. It showed an ancient Greek scene of a ruined temple with white columns lying on their sides, a crumbling fountain, and a broken statue. As I looked at the Hellenistic architecture that had once held great beauty, I tried to imagine what had destroyed it. I was curious, especially when I began studying about the tragedy of once great and thriving civilizations that had decayed and crumbled from within.

The sinful depravity and wanton destruction we see around us today can be troubling. It’s natural for us to try to explain it by pointing to people and nations that have rejected God. But shouldn’t we be casting our gaze inwardly as well? Scripture warns us about being hypocrites when we call out others to turn from their sinful ways without also taking a deeper look inside our own hearts (MATTHEW 7:1-5).

Psalm 32 challenges us to see and confess our own sin. It’s only when we recognize and confess our personal sin that we can experience freedom from guilt and the joy of true repentance (VV. 1-5). And as we rejoice in knowing that God offers us complete forgiveness, we can share that hope with others who are also struggling with sin. CINDY HESS KASPER

<Father God, I thank You for the gift of Your forgiveness that eliminates the guilt of my sin. Help me to first examine my own heart before I concern myself with the sins of others.>

Selah 1.  "Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2.  For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. 3.  "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4.  How can you say to your brother, `Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5.  You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.
