 Let God Do His Work

"Neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase."
(1 Corinthians 3:7)

In our zeal to serve the Lord, it's easy to think that it's our responsibility to produce results. This causes us to place too much faith in our ability and too little faith in God's.

Paul observed this same tendency in the Corinthian church. Certain believers extolled the seed-planting ministry of Paul, while others favored the seed-watering ministry of Apollos.
In 1 Corinthians 3, Paul reminded them that it is God who brings the seed to fruition (vv.4-7). Yet Paul acknowledged that their faithful efforts were part of God's plan, "and each one will receive his own reward according to his own labor" (v.8).

Imagine a farmer sitting on his front porch. You ask him what he's doing. He answers, "Farming." You ask him what he's growing. He replies, "Wheat." "But your fields look unplowed and unplanted," you say. "That's right," he answers, "I'm farming by faith. Believing God for a harvest." "But shouldn't you be doing something?" you protest. He replies, "I am. I'm praying and believing!"

This story reminds us that God won't do our work for us, and 1 Corinthians teaches us that the results are not up to us. The best way to serve is to faithfully plant and water the seed, then trust God for the results.

《하나님께서 일하시게 하라》

"그런즉 심는 이나 물주는 이는 아무 것도 아니로되 오직 자라나게 하시는 하나님뿐이니라" (고린도전서 3:7)

● 말씀을 생각하며 ●
주님을 섬기는데 열심을 쏟으면서 우리는 어떤 결과를 이루어 내는 것이 우리의 책임이라고 생각하기 쉽습니다. 이런 생각은 자신의 능력에 더 많은 믿음을 두게하고 하나님의 능력에는 거의 믿음을 두지 않게 만듭니다.

바울은 고린도 교회에 이런 경향이 있음을 보았습니다. 어떤 교인들은 바울의 씨앗을 심는 사역을 크게 칭찬했고, 다른 교인들은 씨앗에 물을 주는 아볼로의 사역을 더 좋아했습니다. 바울은 고린도전서 3장에서 씨를 자라나게 하시는 이는 바로 하나님이라는 것을 그들에게 일깨워 주었습니다 (4-7절).
바울은 그들의 신실한 노력들은 다 하나님의 계획의 일부임을 인정하고, “각각 일하는 대로 상을 받으리라” (8절)고 말했습니다.

한 농부가 현관에 앉아 있다고 상상해 봅시다. 당신이 그에게 무엇을 하고 있느냐고 묻습니다. 그는 “농사”라고 대답합니다. 당신은 그에게 무엇을 재배하느냐고 묻습니다. 그는 “밀”이라고 대답합니다. “하지만 당신의 밭은 갈지도 씨뿌리지도 않은 것 같은데요.”라고 당신이 말합니다. “맞아요. 나는 믿음으로 농사를 짓습니다. 하나님께서 수확해 주실 것을 믿고 있지요”라고 그가 대답합니다. “하지만 무슨 일이라도 해야 되지 않겠소?”라고 당신이 항의합니다. “하고 있지요. 기도하고 있고 또 믿고 있습니다!”라고 그가 대답합니다.

이 이야기는 하나님께서 우리가 해야 할 일을 우리를 위해 대신해주시지 않는다는 것을 깨우쳐줍니다. 그리고 고린도전서 말씀은 우리가 하는 일의 결과는 우리에게 달려있지 않다는 것을 또한 가르쳐 줍니다.
섬기는 데 있어 가장 좋은 방법은 충실히 씨를 심고 물을 준 다음 결과를 하나님께 맡기는 것입니다.

하나님께서는 우리가
씨를 열매맺게 하기를 기대하지 않으십니다.
그저 씨를 심으라고 말씀하셨습니다.
그리고 나서 그것이 뿌리 내리도록 기도하라 하셨습니다.
