그는 늙어도 여전히 결실하며 진액이 풍족하고 빛이 청청하니

레노어 던롭은 아흔네 살인데도 정신이 또렷했고 웃는 모습이 해맑았으며, 자연스럽게 전해지는 예수님을 향한 그의 사랑은 많은 사람들이 느낄 수 있었다.
레노어가 교회 청년들과 어울리는 일은 다반사였고, 그가 함께 참여하는 것만으로도 기쁨과 격려가 되었다.  
레노어의 삶이 너무나도 활기차기에 그 할머니의 죽음은 우리에겐 너무 뜻밖이었다.
힘차게 달리는 달리기 선수처럼 그는 인생의 결승선까지  전력을 다해 통과했다. 
에너지와 열정이 그토록 대단해서 돌아가시기 바로 며칠 전에 세상 사람들에게 예수님의 메시지를 전하는 것을 주요내용으로 16주 교육과정을 끝마치기도 했다. 
레노어의 풍성한 결실을 맺으며 하나님을 높이는 삶은 시편 92:12-15의 모습을 잘 보여주고 있다.

이 시편은 하나님과의 올바른 관계에 뿌리를 내린 사람들이 싹을 내고 꽃을 피워 결실을 맺는 삶을 사는 것을 묘사하고 있다(12-13절). 묘사되어 있는 두 그루의 나무는 각각 그 열매와 목재가 가치가 있는데, 시편 기자는 이 두 나무를 묘사하면서 활력과 번성과 유용성의 의미를 담아내고 있다. 
우리의 삶 속에서 사랑하고 나누며 도와주고 다른 사람을 그리스도께로 인도하는 일을 싹 틔우고 꽃 피워 열매 맺는 것을 우리는 기뻐해야 한다.

“어르신” 또는 “오래 산 사람”으로 구분하는사람들조차도 뿌리를 내리고 열매 맺는 일은 결코 늦지 않다.
예수님을 통해 하나님께 깊게 뿌리 내린 레노어의 삶이 그것을 입증하고 있고, 또 하나님의 선하심을 입증해 보여주고 있다(15절). 우리도 그렇게 할 수 있다.

예수님과의 관계가 자라가면서 얻게 되는 열매가 삶 속에서 어떻게 나타나고 있습니까? 당신이 성장하는데에 더하거나 제거해야 할 것은 무엇입니까?

12. 의인은 종려나무 같이 번성하며 레바논의 백향목 같이 성장하리로다

15. 여호와의 정직하심과 나의 바위 되심과 그에게는 불의가 없음이 선포되리로다.

 Fruitful to the End

They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green.

Although Lenore Dunlop was ninety-four years young, her mind was sharp, her smile was bright, and her contagious love for Jesus was felt by many.
It wasn’t uncommon to find her in the company of the youth of our church; her presence and participation were sources of joy and encouragement. Lenore’s life was so vibrant that her death caught us off guard.
Like a powerful runner, she sprinted across life’s finish line. Her energy and zeal were such that, just days before her death, she completed a sixteen-week course that focused on taking the message of Jesus to the peoples of the world.

The fruitful, God-honoring life of Lenore illustrates what’s seen in Psalm 92:12–15. This psalm describes the budding, blossoming, and fruit-bearing of those whose lives are rooted in a right relationship with God (VV. 12–13). The two trees pictured were valued for their fruit and wood, respectively; with these the psalmist captures a sense of vitality, prosperity, and usefulness.

When we see in our lives the budding and blossoming fruit of loving, sharing, helping, and leading others to Christ, we should rejoice.

Even for those who may be labeled “senior” or “seasoned,” it’s never too late to take root and bear fruit. Lenore’s life was deeply rooted in God through Jesus and testifies to this and to God’s goodness (V. 15). Ours can too.
