누구를 아느냐가 중요하다(It’S Who You Know)

💙 누구를 아느냐가 중요하다

✝  빌립보서 3:7-11

"모든 것을 해로 여김은 내 주 그리스도 예수를 아는 지식이 가장 고상하기 때문이라" [빌립보서 3:8]

2019년 초, 찰리 밴더미어가 84세의 나이로 세상을 떠났습니다. 수십 년 동안 국영 라디오 방송의 ‘어린이 성경 시간’을 진행했던 그는 많은 사람들에게 찰리 아저씨로 알려져 있습니다. 찰리 아저씨가 영원의 길로 들어서기 하루 전, 친한 친구에게 이렇게 말했습니다. “네가 ‘무엇’을 아느냐가 아니라 ‘누구’를 아느냐가 중요해. 물론, 예수 그리스도를 말하는 거지.”

임종을 맞이하면서도 찰리 아저씨는 예수님에 대해, 또 사람들이 예수님을 구주로 받아들여야 할 필요성에 대해 이야기하지 않을 수 없었습니다.

바울 사도는 예수님을 아는 것을 자신의 가장 중요한 일로 여겼습니다. “내가 모든 것을 해로 여김은 내 주 그리스도 예수를 아는 지식이 가장 고상하기 때문이라 내가 그를 위하여 모든 것을 잃어버리고 배설물로 여김은 그리스도를 얻고 그 안에서 발견되려 함이니”(빌립보서 3:8-9). 그러면 어떻게 예수님을 알 수 있을까요? “네가 만일 네 입으로 예수를 주로 시인하며 또 하나님께서 그를 죽은 자 가운데서 살리신 것을 네 마음으로 믿으면 구원을 받으리라” (로마서 10:9).

우리는 예수님에 관한 사실들과 교회에 대한 모든 것을 알며, 성경에도 해박한 지식을 갖출 수 있습니다. 그러나 예수님을 구주로 알 수 있는 유일한 길은 값없이 주시는 선물인 구원을 받아들이는 것입니다. 예수님이야말로 우리가 알아야만 하는 분입니다.

예수님과의 관계 속에서, 무엇이 아니라 누구를 아는 것이 중요하다는 사실을 어떻게 경험해 보셨습니까? 그리스도의 용서하심이 당신에게 어떤 의미가 있었습니까?

<하나님 아버지, 그들을 대신해 죽으신 예수님을 믿고 받아들여 예수님을 알아야 할 모든 사람들을 위해 기도합니다. 만일 내가 아직 예수님을 나의 구주로 받아들이지 않았다면, 오늘 나의 입으로 “예수님은 주님이시다”라고 고백하게 하소서.>

7.  그러나 무엇이든지 내게 유익하던 것을 내가 그리스도를 위하여 다 해로 여길뿐더러 8.  또한 모든 것을 해로 여김은 내 주 그리스도 예수를 아는 지식이 가장 고상하기 때문이라 내가 그를 위하여 모든 것을 잃어버리고 배설물로 여김은 그리스도를 얻고 9.  그 안에서 발견되려 함이니 내가 가진 의는 율법에서 난 것이 아니요 오직 그리스도를 믿음으로 말미암은 것이니 곧 믿음으로 하나님께로부터 난 의라 10.  내가 그리스도와 그 부활의 권능과 그 고난에 참여함을 알고자 하여 그의 죽으심을 본받아 11.  어떻게 해서든지 죽은 자 가운데서 부활에 이르려 하노니

 

💙 It’S Who You Know

✝  Philippians 3:7–11

"I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord."[ PHILIPPIANS 3:8 ]

In early 2019, Charlie VanderMeer died at the age of eighty-four. For many decades, he was known to thousands and thousands of people as Uncle Charlie, the host of the national radio broadcast Children’s Bible Hour. The day before Uncle Charlie slipped into eternity, he told a good friend, “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know. Of course, I’m talking about Jesus Christ.”

Even as he faced the end of his life, Uncle Charlie couldn’t help but talk about Jesus and the necessity for people to receive Him as their Savior.

The apostle Paul considered knowing Jesus his most important task: “I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him” (PHILIPPIANS 3:8–9). And how do we know Jesus? “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (ROMANS 10:9).

We may know facts about Jesus, we may know all about the church, and we may even be familiar with the Bible. But the only way to know Jesus as Savior is to accept His free gift of salvation. He’s the Who we need to know. -DAVE BRANON

In your relationship with Jesus, how have you experienced that it’s Who you know, not what? What has Christ’s forgiveness meant to you?

<Father God, I pray for all who’ve yet to come to know Jesus by believing in Him and accepting His sacrifice on their behalf. And if I’m one who hasn’t received Jesus as my Savior, may I confess with my mouth “Jesus is Lord” today.>

7.  But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. 8.  What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ 9.  and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ -- the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith. 10.  I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11.  and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead.
