들으라고 주신 귀(Ears Were Made for Listening)

 들으라고 주신 귀 

♣ 말씀 묵상 : 예레미야 5:18-23 

"어리석고 지각이 없으며 눈이 있어도 보지 못하며 귀가 있어도 듣지 못하는 백성이여 이를 들을지어다." (예레미야 5:21)

여배우 다이앤 크루거는 그녀를 아주 유명하게 만들만한 배역을 제의받았다. 그것은 남편과 자녀를 잃는 젊은 아내이자 어머니 역이었는데 사실, 그녀는 개인적으로 그런 상실을 겪어본 적이 없었기 때문에 그 배역을 실감나게 해낼 수 있을지 잘 몰랐다.

하지만 제의를 받아들인 그녀는 연기를 준비하기 위해 극심한 슬픔을 겪는 사람들을 돕는 모임에 나가기 시작했다. 

모임에서 사람들이 자신들의 얘기를 나눌 때 처음에는 그녀도 자신의 의견과 생각을 말하곤 했다. 우리 대부분의 사람처럼 그녀도 사람들에게 도움을 주고 싶었던 것이다. 

그러나 점점 말을 하지 않고 단지 듣기만 하기 시작했다. 그러자 비로소 진정으로 그들의 입장이 되어 살아가는 것을 배우게 되었다. 

귀를 사용함으로써 알게 된 것이다.

예레미야는 백성들이 “귀”로 주님의 음성을 들으려 하지 않는 것을 책망했습니다. 선지자는 주저 없이 그들을 “어리석고 지각이 없는 백성”(렘 5:21)이라고 불렀습니다. 

하나님은 우리의 삶 속에 끊임없이 역사하시면서 우리에게 사랑과 교훈, 격려, 경고의 말씀을 해주십니다. 

하나님 아버지는 우리 모두 배우고 성숙해지기를 바라시고, 우리 한 사람 한 사람에게 그렇게 되라고 귀와 같은 기관을 주셨습니다. 

이제 문제는 우리 하나님 아버지의 마음을 듣기 위해 그것들을 사용할 것인가 하는 것입니다. 

하나님 아버지, 하나님은 우리에게 항상 말씀하고 계심을 믿습니다. 답을 가지고 있다고 생각하는 저의 고집을 용서하시고, 제 귀를 열어 듣게 하소서. 

< 듣고자 하는 마음만 있으면 우리의 귀는 믿음의 성숙을 돕는다. >

 

 Ears Were Made for Listening

♣ Read : Jeremiah 5:18-23 

"Hear this, you foolish and senseless people, who have eyes but do not see, who have ears but do not hear."(Jeremiah 5:21)

Actress Diane Kruger was offered a role that would make her a household name. But it required her to play a young wife and mother experiencing the loss of her husband and child, and she had never personally suffered loss to such a degree. She didn’t know if she could be believable. 

But she accepted, and in order to prepare, she began attending support meetings for people walking through the valley of extreme grief.

Initially she offered suggestions and thoughts when those in the group shared their stories. She, like most of us, wanted to be helpful. But gradually she stopped talking, and simply started listening. It was only then she began truly learning to walk a mile in their shoes. And her realization came by using her ears.

Jeremiah’s indictment against the people was that they refused to use their “ears” to hear the Lord’s voice. 

The prophet did not mince words, calling them “foolish and senseless people” (JEREMIAH 5:21). God is constantly at work in our lives communicating words of love, instruction, encouragement, and caution. 

The Father’s desire is that you and I learn and mature, and we have each been given the tools, such as ears, to do so. 

The question then is, will we use them to hear the heart of our Father? 

Father, I believe You are always speaking. Forgive my stubborn tendency to think I have all the answers. Open my ears that I may hear.
