💙 하나님을 향한 갈망

✝  느헤미야 1:5-11

"너희 쫓긴 자가 하늘 끝에 있을지라도 내가 거기서부터 그들을 모아 내 이름을 두려고 택한 곳에 돌아오게 하리라" [느헤미야 1:9]

커너와 사라 스미스 부부가 5마일(9킬로미터) 떨어진 윗 동네로 이사했을 때, 그들의 고양이 스모어는 낯선 나머지 집을 나갔습니다. 어느 날 사라는 소셜미디어에서 그들이 살던 예전 농가의 현재 사진을 보았는데, 사진 속에 스모어가 있었습니다!

스미스 부부는 기뻐하며 고양이를 찾아왔지만 스모어는 또 달아났습니다. 고양이는 어디로 갔을까요? 결국 그들의 집을 매입한 가족이 스모어까지 받아주기로 했습니다. 찾아서 데리고 오면 스모어는 늘 “옛집”으로 돌아갔기 때문에 스미스 부부로서는 어쩔 수가 없었습니다.

느헤미야는 수산 왕궁에서 권력의 자리에 있었지만 그의 마음은 다른 곳에 있었습니다. 그는 “조상들의 묘실이 있는 성읍”의 슬픈 상황의 소식 (느헤미야 2:3)을 방금 듣고 이렇게 기도했습니다. “옛적에 주께서 주의 종 모세에게……만일 내게로 돌아와 내 계명을 지켜 행하면 너희 쫓긴 자가 하늘 끝에 있을지라도 내가 거기서부터 그들을 모아 내 이름을 두려고 택한 곳에 돌아오게 하리라 하신 말씀을 이제 청하건대 기억하옵소서”(1:8-9).

마음이 있는 곳이 고향이라고 사람들은 말합니다. 그러나 느헤미야가 고국을 그리워한 것은 그 땅에 대한 그리움 이상이었습니다. 그가 가장 바랐던 것은 하나님과의 교제였습니다. 예루살렘은 “내 이름을 두려고 택한 곳” 이었기 때문입니다.

우리 마음 깊은 곳에 도사린 불만은 사실 하나님을 향한 갈망이라고 볼 수 있습니다. 우리는 하나님과 함께 본향에 있기를 갈망합니다.

당신은 본향에 대해 어떤 생각을 가지고 있습니까? 왜 그렇습니까? 어떤 면에서 당신이 하나님을 갈망하고 있다고 느낍니까?

<하나님 아버지, 오직 하나님만이 나의 갈망을 충족시킬 수 있음을 깨닫게 도와주소서. 제가 어디에 있든 하나님과 함께 본향에 거하도록 도와주소서.>

5.  이르되 하늘의 하나님 여호와 크고 두려우신 하나님이여 주를 사랑하고 주의 계명을 지키는 자에게 언약을 지키시며 긍휼을 베푸시는 주여 간구하나이다 6.  이제 종이 주의 종들인 이스라엘 자손을 위하여 주야로 기도하오며 우리 이스라엘 자손이 주께 범죄한 죄들을 자복하오니 주는 귀를 기울이시며 눈을 여시사 종의 기도를 들으시옵소서 나와 내 아버지의 집이 범죄하여 7.  주를 향하여 크게 악을 행하여 주께서 주의 종 모세에게 명령하신 계명과 율례와 규례를 지키지 아니하였나이다 8.  옛적에 주께서 주의 종 모세에게 명령하여 이르시되 만일 너희가 범죄하면 내가 너희를 여러 나라 가운데에 흩을 것이요 9.  만일 내게로 돌아와 내 계명을 지켜 행하면 너희 쫓긴 자가 하늘 끝에 있을지라도 내가 거기서부터 그들을 모아 내 이름을 두려고 택한 곳에 돌아오게 하리라 하신 말씀을 이제 청하건대 기억하옵소서 10.  이들은 주께서 일찍이 큰 권능과 강한 손으로 구속하신 주의 종들이요 주의 백성이니이다 11.  주여 구하오니 귀를 기울이사 종의 기도와 주의 이름을 경외하기를 기뻐하는 종들의 기도를 들으시고 오늘 종이 형통하여 이 사람들 앞에서 은혜를 입게 하옵소서 하였나니 그 때에 내가 왕의 술 관원이 되었느니라

 

💙 Longing For God

✝  Nehemiah 1:5-11

"Even if your exiled people are at the farthest horizon, I will gather them from there and bring them to the place I have chosen." [ NEHEMIAH 1:9 ]

When Conner and Sarah Smith moved five miles up the road, their cat S’mores expressed his displeasure by running away. One day Sarah saw a current photo of their old farmhouse on social media. There was S’mores in the picture! Happily, the Smiths went to retrieve him. S’mores ran away again. Guess where he went? This time, the family that had purchased their house agreed to keep S’mores too. The Smiths couldn’t stop the inevitable; S’mores would always return “home.”

Nehemiah served in a prestigious position in the king’s court in Susa, but his heart was elsewhere. He had just heard news of the sad condition of “the city where my ancestors are buried” (NEHEMIAH 2:3). And so he prayed, “Remember the instruction you gave your servant Moses, . . . ‘if you return to me and obey my commands, then even if your exiled people are at the farthest horizon, I will gather them from there and bring them to the place I have chosen as a dwelling for my Name’ ” (1:8.9).

Home is where the heart is, they say. In Nehemiah’s case, longing for home was more than being tied to the land. It was communion with God that he most desired. Jerusalem was “the place I have chosen as a dwelling for my Name.”

The dissatisfaction we sense deep down is actually a longing for God. We’re yearning to be home with Him. TIM GUSTAFSON

5.  Then I said: "O LORD, God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and obey his commands, 6.  let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear the prayer your servant is praying before you day and night for your servants, the people of Israel. I confess the sins we Israelites, including myself and my father's house, have committed against you. 7.  We have acted very wickedly toward you. We have not obeyed the commands, decrees and laws you gave your servant Moses. 8.  "Remember the instruction you gave your servant Moses, saying, `If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the nations, 9.  but if you return to me and obey my commands, then even if your exiled people are at the farthest horizon, I will gather them from there and bring them to the place I have chosen as a dwelling for my Name.' 10.  "They are your servants and your people, whom you redeemed by your great strength and your mighty hand. 11.  O Lord, let your ear be attentive to the prayer of this your servant and to the prayer of your servants who delight in revering your name. Give your servant success today by granting him favor in the presence of this man." I was cupbearer to the king.
