Read: Titus 3:1 - 3:7

" Speak evil of no one, ... be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men. "
( Titus 3:2 )

Singapore is a tiny island. It’s so small that one can hardly spot it on the world map. (Try it, if you don’t already know where Singapore is.) Because it is densely populated, consideration of others is especially important. A man wrote to his fiancée who was coming to Singapore for the first time: “Space is limited. Therefore ... you must always have that sense of space around you. You should always step aside to ensure you are not blocking anyone. The key is to be considerate.”

The apostle Paul wrote to Titus, a young pastor: “Remind the people ... to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle toward everyone”(Titus 3:1-2 niv). It has been said, “Our lives may be the only Bible some people read.” The world knows that Christians are supposed to be different. If we are cantankerous, self-absorbed, and rude, what will others think about Christ and the gospel we share?

Being considerate is a good motto to live by and is possible as we depend on the Lord. And it is one way to model Christ and demonstrate to the world that Jesus saves and transforms lives. — Poh Fang Chia


Dear Lord, help us to be gracious, kind, and
considerate not only in the church but also in our
community. May the world who watches see
transformed people and believe in Your transforming power.

Titus 3:1-7

[1] Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work,
[2] to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men.
[3] For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another.
[4] But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared,
[5] not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,
[6] whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior,
[7] that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

말씀 읽기: 디도서 3:1 - 3:7

" 아무도 비방하지 말며 다투지 말며 관용하며 범사에 온유함을 모든 사람에게 나타낼 것을 기억하게 하라 "

● 말씀을 생각하며 ●

싱가포르는 작은 섬입니다. 너무 작기 때문에 세계지도에서 찾기가 힘듭니다. (혹 싱가포르가 어디 있는지 아직 모르신다면 한번 찾아보십시오.) 그곳은 인구밀도가 높기 때문에 다른 사람을 배려하는 것이 특히 중요합니다. 한 남자가 싱가포르에 처음 오는 그의 약혼녀에게 다음과 같이 편지했습니다. “이곳은 비좁은 곳이라서…당신은 언제나 주변 공간에 신경을 써야만하며, 언제나 누군가를 가로막지 않도록 한 걸음 비켜서야 합니다. 남을 배려하는 것이 아주 중요해요."

바울사도는 젊은 목회자 디도에게 다음과 같이 편지했습니다. “너는 그들로 하여금…순종하며 모든 선한 일 행하기를 준비하게 하며 아무도 비방하지 말며 다투지 말며 관용하며 범사에 온유함을 모든 사람에게 나타낼 것을 기억하게 하라”(딛 3:1-2). “어떤 사람들에게는 우리의 삶이 그들이 읽는 유일한 성경이다.”라는 말도 있습니다.
세상 사람들은 그리스도인들은 달라야 한다고 생각합니다. 만약 우리가 쉽게 다투고 자기중심적이며 무례하다면, 그리스도와 우리가 전하는 복음에 대하여 다른 사람들이 어떻게 생각할까요?

● 오늘의 묵상 ●

남을 배려한다는 것은 지니면서 살기에 좋은 좌우명입니다. 그것은 우리가 주님을 의지할 때 가능합니다. 그리고 그것은 우리로 그리스도를 본받게 하고, 예수님이 구원하시며 삶을 변화시키신다는 것을 이 세상에 보여주는 방법이 될 것입니다.

사랑하는 주님, 교회에서 뿐만 아니라 지역사회에서도
우리가 공손하고 친절하며 배려할 수 있도록 도와주소서.
우리를 주시하는 세상이 변화된 사람들을 보고
변화시키는 주님의 능력을 믿게 하소서.

< 우리의 증언은 우리의 성품만큼만 증거된다.>

디도서 3:1-7

[1] 너는 그들로 하여금 통치자들과 권세 잡은 자들에게 복종하며 순종하며 모든 선한 일 행하기를 준비하게 하며
[2] 아무도 비방하지 말며 다투지 말며 관용하며 범사에 온유함을 모든 사람에게 나타낼 것을 기억하게 하라
[3] 우리도 전에는 어리석은 자요 순종하지 아니한 자요 속은 자요 여러 가지 정욕과 행락에 종 노릇 한 자요 악독과 투기를 일삼은 자요 가증스러운 자요 피차 미워한 자였으나
[4] 우리 구주 하나님의 자비와 사람 사랑하심이 나타날 때에
[5] 우리를 구원하시되 우리가 행한 바 의로운 행위로 말미암지 아니하고 오직 그의 긍휼하심을 따라 중생의 씻음과 성령의 새롭게 하심으로 하셨나니
[6] 우리 구주 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 우리에게 그 성령을 풍성히 부어 주사
[7] 우리로 그의 은혜를 힘입어 의롭다 하심을 얻어 영생의 소망을 따라 상속자가 되게 하려 하심이라
