“ 아무 것도 염려하지 말고 다만 모든 일에 기도와 간구로 너희 구할 것을 감사함으로 하나님께 아뢰라 “

2019년에는 아기 성별을 공개하는 이벤트 중에 인상적인 것들이 있었습니다. 7월의 어느 영상에는 “아들”임을 알리는 파란 연기를 내뿜는 차가 등장했고, 9월에는 텍사스에서 공중 살포용 비행기로 수백 갤런의 분홍색 물을 쏟아부어 “딸이에요”라고 알리기도 했습니다.

그런가 하면 이 아이들이 자라날 세상에 관한 중요한 사실을 밝혀낸 또 다른 “공개” 도 있었습니다.

2019년 말에 온라인 성경 플랫폼인 ‘유버전’은 온라인 및 모바일 성경 앱에서 그해 가장 많이 공유되고 즐겨 찾았던 성경구절이 빌립보서 4장 6절, “아무 것도 염려하지 말고 다만 모든 일에 기도와 간구로 너희 구할 것을 감사함으로 하나님께 아뢰라”였다고 발표했습니다.

이 구절은 대단한 계시입니다. 사람들은 자녀에게 필요한 것에서부터 가족이나 친구 간에 사이가 벌어지게 된 무수한 모습들, 자연재해, 전쟁에 이르기까지 이 시대의 많은 일들에 대해서 염려합니다.

그러나 다행인 것은 이런 모든 걱정을 하면서도 많은 사람들이 “아무것도 염려하지 말라”는 말씀에 매달린다는 것입니다. 더욱이 바로 그 사람들이 “모든 상황에서” 하나님께 간구하도록 다른 사람들과 자신들을 권면합니다. 삶의 불안을 외면하지 않고 직면하는 마음가짐은 일종의 “감사”입니다.

“올해의 성경구절”로 선정되지는 못했지만 바로 다음 구절은 “그리하면... 하나님의 평강이 그리스도 예수 안에서 너희 마음과 생각을 지키시리라”(7절) 입니다. 이것이야말로 확신을 주는 구절이 아닐 수 없습니다!

지금 염려하고 있는 두 세 가지 상황에는 어떤 것들이 있을까요?

지난 날 하나님의 평강이 당신을 인도하셨던 것들을 떠올려 보는 것은 어떻게 도움이 될까요?

<예수님, 몇 날, 몇 주, 혹은 몇 해 동안 너무 힘이 듭니다. 하지만 어제와 오늘, 그리고 영원히 저를 지켜주시는 주님의 평강에 감사드립니다.>

1. 그러므로 나의 사랑하고 사모하는 형제들, 나의 기쁨이요 면류관인 사랑하는 자들아 이와 같이 주 안에 서라 2. ○내가 유오디아를 권하고 순두게를 권하노니 주 안에서 같은 마음을 품으라 3. 또 참으로 나와 멍에를 같이한 네게 구하노니 복음에 나와 함께 힘쓰던 저 여인들을 돕고 또한 글레멘드와 그 외에 나의 동역자들을 도우라 그 이름들이 생명책에 있느니라 4. ○주 안에서 항상 기뻐하라 내가 다시 말하노니 기뻐하라 5. 너희 관용을 모든 사람에게 알게 하라 주께서 가까우시니라 6. 아무 것도 염려하지 말고 다만 모든 일에 기도와 간구로, 너희 구할 것을 감사함으로 하나님께 아뢰라 7. 그리하면 모든 지각에 뛰어난 하나님의 평강이 그리스도 예수 안에서 너희 마음과 생각을 지키시리라

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”[ PHILIPPIANS 4:6 ]

Baby-gender reveals in 2019 were dramatic. In July, a video showed a car emitting blue smoke to indicate, “It’s a boy!” In September, a crop-duster plane in Texas dumped hundreds of gallons of pink water to announce, “It’s a girl!”

There was another “reveal,” though, that uncovered significant things about the world these children will grow up in.

At the conclusion of 2019, YouVersion revealed that the most shared, highlighted, and bookmarked verse of the year on its online and mobile Bible app was Philippians 4:6, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

That’s quite the revelation. People are anxious about many things these days—from the needs of our sons and daughters, to the myriad ways family and friends are divided, to natural catastrophes and wars.

But in the middle of all these worries, the good news is that many people cling to a verse that says, “Do not be anxious about anything.”

Furthermore, those same people encourage others as well as themselves to present every request to God “in every situation.” The mindset that doesn’t ignore but faces life’s anxieties is one of “thanksgiving.”

The verse that didn’t make “verse of the year” but follows it is—“And the peace of God... will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (V. 7). That’s quite the reassurance!

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5. Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
