 끔찍한 일, 아름다운 일

[말씀 묵상 : 시편 57] 

"내 영광아 깰지어다 비파야, 수금아, 깰지어다 내가 새벽을 깨우리로다"
(시편 57:8 )

두려움은 우리를 얼어붙게 만듭니다. 우리는 두려워하는 이유를 알고 있습니다. 과거에 우리를 아프게 했고, 아마 다시 아프게 할 수 있는 것들이기에 그렇습니다. 그래서 가끔은 되돌아갈 수도 없고, 앞으로 나가기 두려워 꼼짝도 못할 때가 있습니다. 

'어쩔 수가 없어. 난 그 아픔을 다시 이겨낼 요령도 없고 강하거나 용감하지도 못해.’ 

하나님의 은혜를 묘사한 프레드릭 부치너의 글이 나를 사로잡았습니다. 그것은 마치 친절한 음성처럼 내 귀에 들립니다. 

“이것이 세상이란다. 끔찍한 일도 아름다운 일도 생기겠지그러나 두려워하지 말라. 내가 너와 함께 있다.”

‘끔찍한 일들이 생길 것입니다.’ 이 세상에서는 상처받은 사람들이 또 다른 사람들에게, 때로는 아주 심하게, 상처를 줍니다. 

시편기자 다윗처럼 우리에게도 악한 사람들에게 둘러싸이거나, “탐욕스러운 야수” 같은 사람들에게 상처를 입은(시 57:4) 경험들이 있습니다. 

그래서 우리는 비탄에 젖어 부르짖습니다(1-2절).

그러나 하나님께서 우리와 함께하시기에 아름다운 일들도 생깁니다. 우리가 상처와 두려움을 안고 하나님께로 달려갈 때, 우리는 우리를 해하려는 그 어떤 힘보다 훨씬 더 큰 사랑(1-3절), 하늘만큼 깊은 사랑을(10절) 경험하게 됩니다. 비록 재앙이 닥친다 해도 그분의 사랑은 우리 마음이 치유를 받는 확실한 피난처가 되어 주십니다(1, 7절). 

언젠가 우리가 새로운 용기를 찾아 하나님의 신실하심을 찬양하며 그날을 맞이하게 될 때까지 그렇게 해주십니다(8-10절).

치유자 , 구원자가 되시는 주님, 주님의 영원한 사랑으로 우리를 붙들어주시고 치유해주셔서 감사합니다. 

주님의 사랑 안에서 용기를 가지고 주님을 따르고 주님의 사랑을 다른 사람들과 나눌 수 있게 도와주소서.

 Terrible and Beautiful Things

[Read : Psalms 57] 

"Awake, my soul! Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn."
(Psalms 57:8)

Fear can leave us frozen. We know all the reasons to be afraid—everything that’s hurt us in the past, everything that could easily do so again. So sometimes we’re stuck— unable to go back; too afraid to move forward.

I just can’t do it. I’m not smart enough, strong enough, or brave enough to handle being hurt like that again.

I’m captivated by how author Frederick Buechner describes God’s grace: like a gentle voice that says, “Here is the world. Terrible and beautiful things will happen. Don’t be afraid. I am with you.”

Terrible things will happen. In our world, hurting people hurt other people, often terribly. Like the psalmist David, we carry our own stories of when evil sur- rounded us, when, like “ravenous beasts,” others wounded us (PSALM 57:4). And so we grieve; we cry out (VV. 1–2).

But because God is with us, beautiful things can happen too. As we run to Him with our hurts and fears, we find ourselves carried by a love far greater than anyone’s power to harm us (VV. 1–3), a love so deep it fills the skies (V. 10). Even when disaster rages around us, His love is a solid refuge where our hearts find healing (VV. 1, 7). Until one day we’ll find ourselves awakening to renewed courage, ready to greet the day with a song of His faithfulness (VV. 8–10). 

Healer and Redeemer, thank You for holding us and healing us with Your endless love. 

Help us find in Your love the courage to follow You and share Your love with those around us.
