“ 빌립이 입을 열어 이 글에서 시작하여 예수를 가르쳐 복음을 전하니 “[사도행전 8:35]

그 이메일은 짧고 긴박했습니다. “구원 요청합니다. 예수님을 알고 싶습니다.” 얼마나 놀라운 요청인지요. 예수님 영접하기를 꺼리는 친구나 가족들과는 달리 이 사람은 설득할 필요가 없었습니다. 내가 할 일이라고는 전도에 대한 나 자신의 의구심을 가라앉히고, 복음의 핵심 진리와 성경, 그리고 그에게 필요한 신뢰할 만한 참고자료들을 나누는 것 뿐이었습니다. 거기서부터는 믿음을 쫓아 하나님께서 그의 여정을 인도하실 것입니다.

빌립은 그런 단순한 전도를 어떻게 하는지 잘 보여주었습니다. 사막을 지나는 길에 에디오피아 국고를 맡은 관리가 이사야서를 소리 내어 읽고 있을 때 빌립이 이렇게 물었습니다. “읽는 것을 깨닫느냐”(사도행전 8:30). 그 사람은 “지도해주는 사람이 없으니 어찌 깨달을 수 있느냐”(31절)고 대답했습니다. 그가 알아듣기 쉽게 가르쳐줄 것을 요청하자 “빌립이 입을 열어 이 글에서 시작하여 예수를 가르쳐 복음을 전하였습니다”(35절).

빌립이 보여주었듯이 사람들이 처한 상황에서 시작하여 단순하게 복음을 전하는 것이 그리스도를 전하는 효과적인 방법이 될 수 있습니다.

실제로, 두 사람이 길을 함께 가다가 관리가 “보라 여기 물이 있다” 하며 세례 받기를 청했습니다(36절). 빌립은 그 말에 따라 세례를 주었고, 그 사람은 “기쁘게 길을 갔습니다”(39절).

나도 그 이메일을 쓴 분이 죄를 회개하고 그리스도를 영접했으며, 교회를 찾았고 다시 태어난 것을 믿는다고 답장해 줘서 아주 기뻤습니다. 얼마나 아름다운 시작입니까! 이제 하나님께서 그를 더 높은 곳으로 인도해 주시기를 기도합니다!

26. ○주의 사자가 빌립에게 말하여 이르되 일어나서 남쪽으로 향하여 예루살렘에서 가사로 내려가는 길까지 가라 하니 그 길은 광야라 27. 일어나 가서 보니 에디오피아 사람 곧 에디오피아 여왕 간다게의 모든 국고를 맡은 관리인 내시가 예배하러 예루살렘에 왔다가 28. 돌아가는데 수레를 타고 선지자 이사야의 글을 읽더라 29. 성령이 빌립더러 이르시되 이 수레로 가까이 나아가라 하시거늘 30. 빌립이 달려가서 선지자 이사야의 글 읽는 것을 듣고 말하되 읽는 것을 깨닫느냐 31. 대답하되 지도해 주는 사람이 없으니 어찌 깨달을 수 있느냐 하고 빌립을 청하여 수레에 올라 같이 앉으라 하니라 32. 읽는 성경 구절은 이것이니 일렀으되 그가 도살자에게로 가는 양과 같이 끌려갔고 털 깎는 자 앞에 있는 어린 양이 조용함과 같이 그의 입을 열지 아니하였도다 33. 그가 굴욕을 당했을 때 공정한 재판도 받지 못하였으니 누가 그의 세대를 말하리요 그의 생명이 땅에서 빼앗김이로다 하였거늘 34. 그 내시가 빌립에게 말하되 청컨대 내가 묻노니 선지자가 이 말한 것이 누구를 가리킴이냐 자기를 가리킴이냐 타인을 가리킴이냐 35. 빌립이 입을 열어 이 글에서 시작하여 예수를 가르쳐 복음을 전하니

“Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus.”

[ ACTS 8:35 ]

The email was short but urgent. “Request salvation. I would like to know Jesus.” What an astonishing request. Unlike reluctant friends and family who hadn’t yet received Christ, this person didn’t need convincing. My task was to quiet my self- doubt about evangelizing and simply share key concepts, Scriptures, and trusted resources that addressed this man’s plea. From there, by faith, God would lead his journey.

Philip demonstrated such simple evangelism when on a desert road he met the treasurer of Ethiopia who was reading aloud from the book of Isaiah. “Do you understand what you are reading?” Philip asked (ACTS 8:30). “How can I,” the man answered, “unless someone explains it to me” (V. 31).

Invited to clarify, “Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus” (V. 35).

Starting where people are and keeping evangelism simple, as Philip showed, can be an effective way to share Christ.

In fact, as the two traveled along, the man said, “Look, here is water” and asked to be baptized (V. 36). Philip complied, and the man “went on his way rejoicing” (V. 39).

I rejoiced when the email writer replied that he had repented of sin, confessed Christ, found a church, and believed he was born again. What a beautiful start! Now, may God take him higher!

26. Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, "Go south to the road -- the desert road -- that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza."

27. So he started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch, an important official in charge of all the treasury of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians. This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship,

28. and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the book of Isaiah the prophet.

29. The Spirit told Philip, "Go to that chariot and stay near it."

30. Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. "Do you understand what you are reading?" Philip asked.

31. "How can I," he said, "unless someone explains it to me?" So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.

32. The eunuch was reading this passage of Scripture: "He was led like a sheep to the slaughter, and as a lamb before the shearer is silent, so he did not open his mouth.

33. In his humiliation he was deprived of justice. Who can speak of his descendants? For his life was taken from the earth."

34. The eunuch asked Philip, "Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?"

35. Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus.
