 성령 안에서 노래하기 

♣ 말씀 묵상 : 고린도후서 5:7 - 5:14 

"오직 성령으로 충만함을 받으라 시와 찬송과 신령한 노래들로 서로 화답하며"(에베소서 5:18-19) 

20세기 초 웨일즈의 부흥 당시, 성경 교사였던 작가 캠벨 모건은 자신이 목격한 바를 이렇게 묘사했습니다. 그는 하나님의 성령이 “성가의 물결”을 타고 임하신다고 믿었습니다. 모건은 회중 스스로 기도와 죄의 고백, 그리고 동시에 터져 나오는 찬송으로 고무되었던 부흥집회에서 모두 하나로 만드는 음악의 힘을 목격했다고 썼습니다. 

어떤 사람이 감정에 너무 취해 있거나, 기도를 너무 오래 하거나, 또는 다른 사람들과 공감하지 않는 방식으로 이야기를 한다면, 누군가 조용히 노래를 부르기 시작합니다. 그러면 사람들이 하나둘씩 따라 부르면서 마침내 합창이 되고, 다른 모든 소리들은 차분히 가라앉아 버립니다.

모건이 묘사한 부흥 찬송은  성경 스토리를 담아내는데 성경을 보면  음악이  중대한  역할을 담당하고 있습니다. 

음악은 승리를 축하할 때(출 15:1-21), 성전을 봉헌하는 예배에서(대하 5:12-14), 그리고 군사 전략의 한 부분으로(20:21-23) 사용되었습니다. 성경책 한 중간에도 시가집이 있습니다(시 1-150편). 

그리고 신약에서 바울은 에베소 교인들에게 보낸 편지에 성령 안에서의 삶을 “시와 찬송과 신령한 노래들로 서로 화답하는”(엡 5:19) 삶이라고 묘사하고 있습니다. 

다툴 때나 예배할 때나, 우리 삶의 모든 순간에서, 우리 믿음의 음악은 우리가 한 목소리를 찾도록 도와줍니다. 

옛 것과 새 것의 조화 속에서 우리의 힘이나 능력이 아닌, 오직 성령과 하나님의 노래를 통하여 새롭고 또 새로워집니다.

 Singing in the Spirit

♣Read : 2 Corinthians 5:7 - 5:14 

"Be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit."

During the Welsh Revivals of the early twentieth century, Bible teacher and author G. Campbell Morgan described what he observed. He believed the presence of God’s Holy Spirit was moving on “billowing waves of sacred song.” 

Morgan wrote that he had seen the unifying influence of music in meetings that encouraged voluntary prayers, confession, and spontaneous singing. 

If someone got carried away by their feelings and prayed too long, or spoke in a way that didn’t resonate with others, someone would begin to softly sing. Others would gently join in, the chorus swelling in volume until drowning out all other sound.

The renewal in song that Morgan describes has its story in the Scriptures, where music plays a prominent role. Music was used to celebrate victories (EXODUS 15:1–21); in worshipful dedication of the temple (2CHRONICLES5:12–14);

and as a part of military strategy (20:21-23). At the center of the Bible we find a songbook (PSALMS 1–150). And in Paul’s New Testament letter to the Ephesians we read this description of life in the Spirit: “[Speak] to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit” (EPHESIANS 5:19).

In conflict, in worship, in all of life, the music of our faith can help us find one voice. In harmonies old and new we’re renewed again and again, not by might, nor by power, but the Spirit and songs of our God.
