"We are all like an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags." (Isaiah 64:6)

Two men were talking not long after they had become Christians. One was a poor man from a godless background; the other was from an affluent religious environment. After each man told of his conversion, the man with the religious background asked the other, "Why do you suppose you responded the first time you heard the gospel, while so many years passed before I did?"

The poor man answered, "That's easy. Suppose someone came along and offered to give each of us a brand-new suit. I'd jump at the offer. My clothes are old and worn. But your closet is no doubt filled with the finest of suits. That's the way it is with salvation. You were probably satisfied with all your goodness, so it took you a long time to see the need for God's garment of righteousness offered to you through Christ. But I was deeply aware of my sinful condition, and I was eager to receive forgiveness and cleansing."

All people desperately need to be saved. Isaiah said that
"all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags" (64:6).
Those who recognize their spiritual poverty and accept the priceless gift of salvation that comes through faith in Christ are given "new clothes" of righteousness.

“대저 우리는 다 부정한 자 같아서 우리의 의는 다 더러운 옷 같으며” (이사야 64:6)

● 말씀을 생각하며 ●
예수를 믿은지 얼마 안 된 두 남자가 서로 이야기를 나누고 있었습니다. 한 사람은 하나님을 믿지 않는 가정에서 자라난 가난한 사람이었고, 다른 사람은 하나님을 믿는 부유한 집안 출신이었습니다. 어떻게 해서 예수님을 믿게 되었는지를 서로 이야기 하다가 믿는 집안에서 자란 사람이 물었습니다. “나는 복음을 들은 다음 믿게 되기까지 여러해가 걸렸는데 당신은 복음을 듣고 바로 믿게 된 이유가 어디에 있다고 생각합니까?”

가난한 사람이 대답했습니다. “그건 쉽지요. 어떤 사람이 와서 새 양복을 한 벌씩 우리에게 거저 준다고 가정해 봅시다. 나는 너무나 기분좋게 받을 것입니다. 내 옷은 오래되어 낡았거든요. 그렇지만 당신 옷장에는 틀림없이 최고급 양복들이 가득 있을 것입니다. 구원도 마찬가지이지요. 아마도 당신은 스스로의 선함에 만족하기 때문에 그리스도를 통해 주시는 하나님의 의의 옷이 필요하다는 것을 깨닫기까지 오랜 시간이 걸렸을 것입니다. 그러나 나는 죄에 물든 나의 삶을 너무나 잘 알기 때문에 죄 용서와 죄 씻음 받기를 간절히 원했던 것입니다.”

모든 사람은 반드시 구원을 받아야 할 필요가 있습니다. 이사야는 “우리의 의는 다 더러운 옷 같다”(64:6)고 말했습니다. 자기의 영적인 궁핍을 알고 그리스도를 믿는 믿음을 통해서 주어지는 더할 바 없이 귀중한 선물인 구원을 받아들이는 사람에게는 의의 “새 옷”이 주어집니다.

죄 용서 받을 필요가 없다고
말할 수 있는 사람은 아무도 없습니다.
새 삶을 살려면
누구나 믿음을 가지고 그리스도께 나와야 합니다.
