 I'm Ready

 

"Be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. " (Luke 12:40)

A friend of mine who has lived all her life in California goes to sleep every night with her shoes and a flashlight under the bed. When she was a child, her father required every family member to be ready to leave the house if an earthquake were to come during the night. "During a tremor," my friend says, "windows shatter and electricity is lost. With shoes I can walk on broken glass and with a light I can find my way in the dark. I never go to bed without them. I'm ready.
"When Jesus spoke to His followers about His return, He said, "Be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect."(Luke12:40) What does it mean for a Christian to be ready for Christ's return? Jesus said that instead of worrying about material things, we are to trust God's provision and make His kingdom our priority (vv.22-31). Instead of fear that grasps, we are to demonstrate faith that gives (vv.32-34). Like faithful servants, we should expect our Master at any time, because He will return at an unexpected hour (vv.35-40). Jesus promised to return and told us how to live as we wait for His coming. Our lives, more than our lips, are to say, "I'm ready!"

 나는 준비되었습니다

“이러므로 너희도 예비하고 있으라 생각지 않은 때에 인자가 오리라” (누가복음 12:40)

● 말씀을 생각하며 ●
캘리포니아에서만 평생을 살아온 나의 친구는 매일 저녁 잠자리에 들 때에 신발과 회중전등을 침대 밑에 놓아둡니다. 그녀가 어렸을 때에 아버지는 가족들 모두에게 만약 밤중에 지진이 일어나더라도 집을 떠날 준비가 되어있게 하였습니다. 나의 친구의 말입니다. “지진이 일어나면 창문이 부서지고 전기가 나가지. 그러나 신발이 있으면 깨어진 유리 위를 걸을 수 있고 회중전등이 있으면 어둠속에서도 길을 찾을 수가 있어. 나는 그것 없이는 절대로 잠자리에 들지 않아. 언제나 준비를 해놓는 것이지.” 예수님은 제자들에게 자신의 재림에 관하여 말씀하시면서 “예비하고 있으라. 생각지 않은 때에 인자가 오리라” (눅 12:40)고 하셨습니다. 그리스도인이 그리스도의 재림을 위하여 준비되어 있으려면 어떻게 해야할까요? 예수님은 우리에게 물질적인 것들을 염려하지 말고 하나님이 모든 것을 공급해 주신다는 것을 믿고 그의 나라를 우선적으로 구해야 한다고 말씀하셨습니다 (22-31절). 우리는 두려운 나머지 무엇을 붙들려고하기 보다는 나누어 주는 믿음을 보여야 합니다 (32-34절). 충성된 종들처럼 우리는 항상 우리의 주인을 기다려야 합니다. 왜냐하면 그분은 생각지 않은 때에 돌아올 것이기 때문입니다 (35-40절). 돌아오신다고 약속하신 예수님은 우리에게 재림을 기다리면서 어떻게 살아야 하는가를 말씀해 주셨습니다. 우리의 입술보다는 삶을 통해 “나는 준비되어 있습니다”라고 말할 수 있어야 합니다.

● 오늘의 묵상 ●
그 때를 알 수 없으나 주님은 확실히 오십니다. 확실한 것은 그분이 다시 오신다는 것입니다. 준비하는 것이 좋습니다. 지체할 시간이 없습니다. 예수님은 오십니다. 어쩌면 오늘 !
