 Tender Loving Care

Read : 1 Thessalonians 2:1-7

" We were gentle among you, just as a nursing mother cherishes her own children. "
( 1 Thessalonians 2:7)

Max runs a small farm as a hobby. Recently when he checked on the cows he is raising, he was surprised to see a newborn calf!
When he bought the cattle, he had no idea one was pregnant.
Sadly, the mother cow had complications and died shortly after her calf was born. Immediately, Max purchased some powdered milk so he could feed the calf from a bottle.
“The calf thinks I’m its mother!”
Max said.

The tender story of Max’s new role with the calf reminded me of how Paul likened himself to a caring mother in dealing with the believers at Thessalonica: “We were gentle among you,” he said, “just as a nursing mother cherishes her own children”
(1 Thess. 2:7).

Paul adopted a nurturing attitude when teaching people.
He knew believers needed the “milk of the word” for spiritual growth (1 Peter 2:2).
But he also gave special attention to the concerns of those he cared for.
“We dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children,” Paul said, “encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God”
(1 Thess. 2:11-12 niv).

As we serve each other, may we serve with the tender loving care of our Savior, encouraging each other in our spiritual journey
(Heb. 10:24).

Dear Lord, help me to be sensitive
and caring as I serve others.
Help me to love others tenderly as You
so tenderly love and care for me.

 따뜻한 사랑의 보살핌

말씀 읽기:
데살로니가전서 2:1-7

" 도리어 너희 가운데서 유순한 자가 되어 유모가 자기 자녀를 기름과 같이 하였으니 "
( 데살로니가전서 2:7)

맥스는 취미삼아 조그만 농장을 운영하고 있습니다. 얼마 전에 그는 기르는 소들을 살펴보다가 갓 태어난 송아지 한 마리를 보고는 깜짝 놀랐습니다!
소를 살 때 그 중에 새끼 밴 소가 있다는 사실을 전혀 몰랐던 것입니다. 그런데 안타깝게도 새끼가 태어난 지 얼마 안 돼 어미소는 합병증으로 곧 죽고 말았습니다.
맥스는 즉시 분유를 사서 젖병에 담아 송아지를 먹였습니다. 맥스는 “송아지가 나를 엄마로 생각하고 있어!”라고 말했습니다.

송아지를 보살피게 된 맥스의 따뜻한 이야기는 나에게 자기 자신을 데살로니가 성도들을 자녀 같이 돌보는 어머니에 비유했던 바울을 생각나게 해주었습니다. “도리어 너희 가운데서 유순한 자가 되어 유모가 자기 자녀를 기름과 같이 하였으니”(살전 2:7).

바울은 사람들을 가르칠 때 자녀를 기르듯 하였습니다. 그는 믿는 자들의 영적 성장을 위해 “신령한 젖”이 필요하다는(벧전 2:2) 것을 알았을 뿐만 아니라, 자신이 돌보는 자들의 관심에 각별한 신경을 썼습니다. 바울은 “우리가 너희 각 사람에게 아버지가 자기 자녀에게 하듯 권면하고 위로하고 경계하노니…하나님께 합당히 행하게 하려 함이라”
(살전 2:11-12)라고 말했습니다.

우리가 서로를 섬길 때, 우리의 영적 여정에서 서로를 격려하면서, 우리 구주의 따뜻한 사랑의 보살핌으로 섬길 수 있기를 바랍니다(히 10:24).

● 오늘의 묵상 ●

사랑하는 주님, 제가 다른 사람들을 섬길 때
그들에 대해 섬세하고 배려하는 마음을 갖게 해주소서.
주님이 저를 그토록 사랑하고 돌보신 것 같이
저도 다른 사람을 따뜻한 마음으로 사랑하게 하소서.

< 하나님은 그분의 사랑을 우리 마음에 쏟아 부으셔서
다른 사람들에게 넘쳐흐르게 하신다.>
