 WHO IS THIS MAN?

" Our Lord . . . was . . . declared to be the Son of God . . . by the resurrection from the dead. "
( Romans 1:3-4)

When Kelly Steinhaus visited Harvard Square to ask college students what they thought of Jesus, the answers were respectful of Him. One said He was “a person who took care of people.” Another said, “He sounds like a cool guy.” Others rejected Him outright: “He was just a guy.
I don’t think He was the Savior.” And “I do not accept any faith system that says, ‘I am the only way to God.’ ” Some people thoughtfully question who Jesus is and some reject Him.

As Jesus faced death 2,000 years ago, many people mocked the idea that He was anyone special. “They put up over His head the accusation written against Him: ‘THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS’ ” (Matt. 27:37). Those who said, “You who destroy the temple and build it in three days, save Yourself!” (v.40) were doubting His power. The religious people even said, “He saved others; Himself He cannot save” (v.42).

In His death, Jesus may have seemed powerless. But when we read the whole story, we see that He gave His life willingly. He proved Himself to be the Son of God and limitless in power as He burst forth from the tomb. Grasp the value of His death and behold the power of His resurrection. He’s the Savior of the world!

켈리 스타인하우스가 하버드광장을 찾아가 대학생들에게 예수님을 어떻게 생각하는지 물었을 때 그들의 대답은 예수님을 존경한다는 것이었습니다.
한 학생은 예수님을 “사람들을 돌봐주었던 사람”이라고 했고, 다른 학생은 “멋있는 사람 같다.”고 했습니다.
그러나 어떤 학생들은 예수님을 철저히 거부하며, “그는 단순히 사람이었지, 구주라고는 생각지 않는다.”라거나, “‘내가 하나님께 이르는 유일한 길’이라는 식의 신앙체계는 받아들일 수 없다.”라고 했습니다. 어떤 사람들은 예수님이 누구신지 진지하게 물어보았지만, 어떤 사람들은 예수님을 거부하였습니다.

2000년 전 예수님이 죽음에 직면했을 때, 많은 사람들이 예수님은 특별한 사람이었다는 생각 자체를 조롱하였습니다. 그들은 “이는 유대인의 왕 예수”(마 27:37)라 쓴 죄패를 예수의 머리에 붙였습니다. 사람들은 예수님의 능력을 의심하며 “성전을 헐고 사흘에 짓는 자여 네가 만일 하나님의 아들이어든 자기를 구원하고 십자가에서 내려오라”(40절)라고 말했습니다. 종교지도자들까지도 “그가 남은 구원하였으되 자기는 구원할 수 없도다”(42절)라고 말했습니다.

예수님의 죽음을 놓고 보면, 예수님도 무기력한 분으로 보일지 모릅니다. 그러나 우리가 이야기 전체를 읽게 되면, 예수님이 자신의 생명을 기꺼이 내어놓으셨다는 것을 알게 됩니다. 예수님은 무덤에서 살아 나오심으로써, 자신이 하나님의 아들이며 능력이 무한하다는 것을 증명하셨습니다. 예수님이 죽으신 참 뜻을 꼭 붙잡고, 주님의 부활의 능력을 바라보십시오. 예수님은 세상의 구주이십니다!

원수를 다 이기고
무덤에서 살아나셨네
어두움을 이기시고 나와서
성도 함께 길이 다스리시네
