💙 복음의 능력

 ✝  로마서 1:1-7, 14-17

"그러므로 나는 할 수 있는 대로 로마에 있는 너희에게도 복음 전하기를 원하노라" [로마서 1:15]

고대 로마에는 그 나름대로 좋은 소식을 의미하는 “복음”이 있었습니다. 시인 베르길리우스에 따르면, 신들의 왕인 제우스는 로마인들을 위해 끝이나 경계가 없는 왕국을 선포하고, 신들은 아우구스투스를 평화와 번영의 황금기를 여는 신의 아들이자 세상의 구원자로 선택했습니다.

그러나 이것이 모든 사람들이 생각하는 좋은 소식은 아니었습니다. 많은 사람들에게 그것은 황제의 군대와 집행관들의 압제에 의해 강요된 달갑지 않은 현실이었습니다. 로마 제국의 영광은 인간으로서의 법적 권리나 재산도 없이 자신들을 지배하는 주인의 뜻에 따라 일해야 했던 노예들의 강제노동을 통해 세워졌습니다.

바로 이런 세상에서 바울은 자신을 그리스도의 종이라고 소개했습니다 (로마서 1:1). 그리고 바울이 한때 예수라는 이름을 얼마나 증오했는지, 예수님이 자신을 유대인의 왕이요 세상의 구세주라고 시인한 대가로 얼마나 고난을 당하셨는지를 말했습니다.

이것이 바로 로마 사람들에게 보낸 그의 편지 나머지 부분에서 바울이 설명하려 했던 좋은 소식이었습니다. 이 복음은 “모든 믿는 자에게 구원을 주시는 하나님의 능력”(16절)이었습니다. 그것은 로마 황제의 통치 아래 고통받던 자들에게 얼마나 필요한 것이었는지요! 이 복음은 십자가에서 죽으시고 부활하신 구세주, 자신의 원수를 향해 무한한 사랑을 보이심으로 그들을 이기신 해방자에 대한 소식이었습니다.

바울이 쓴 로마서의 서두에서 어떤 구절이 복음을 설명하고 있습니까?(1:1–7). 한때 예수님을 그렇게 미워했던 바울이 이제는 모든 사람이 그분을 믿기를 바라는 이유가 무엇입니까?(사도행전 26장 참조).

<복음의 필요성을 절실히 깨닫는 자가 복음을 가장 잘 이해한다.>

1.  예수 그리스도의 종 바울은 사도로 부르심을 받아 하나님의 복음을 위하여 택정함을 입었으니 2.  이 복음은 하나님이 선지자들을 통하여 그의 아들에 관하여 성경에 미리 약속하신 것이라 3.  그의 아들에 관하여 말하면 육신으로는 다윗의 혈통에서 나셨고 4.  성결의 영으로는 죽은 자들 가운데서 부활하사 능력으로 하나님의 아들로 선포되셨으니 곧 우리 주 예수 그리스도시니라 5.  그로 말미암아 우리가 은혜와 사도의 직분을 받아 그의 이름을 위하여 모든 이방인 중에서 믿어 순종하게 하나니 6.  너희도 그들 중에서 예수 그리스도의 것으로 부르심을 받은 자니라 7.  로마에서 하나님의 사랑하심을 받고 성도로 부르심을 받은 모든 자에게 하나님 우리 아버지와 주 예수 그리스도로부터 은혜와 평강이 있기를 원하노라 14.  헬라인이나 야만인이나 지혜 있는 자나 어리석은 자에게 다 내가 빚진 자라 15.  그러므로 나는 할 수 있는 대로 로마에 있는 너희에게도 복음 전하기를 원하노라 16.  내가 복음을 부끄러워하지 아니하노니 이 복음은 모든 믿는 자에게 구원을 주시는 하나님의 능력이 됨이라 먼저는 유대인에게요 그리고 헬라인에게로다 17.  복음에는 하나님의 의가 나타나서 믿음으로 믿음에 이르게 하나니 기록된 바 오직 의인은 믿음으로 말미암아 살리라 함과 같으니라

 

💙 The Power Of The Gospel

 ✝  Romans 1:1-7, 14-17

"I am so eager to preach the gospel also to you who are in Rome." [ ROMANS 1:15 ]

Ancient Rome had its own version of “the gospel” – the good news. According to the poet Virgil, Zeus, king of the gods, had decreed for the Romans a kingdom without end or boundaries. The gods had chosen Augustus as divine son and savior of the world by ushering in a golden age of peace and prosperity.

This, however, wasn’t everyone’s idea of good news. For many it was an unwelcome reality enforced by the heavy hand of the emperor’s army and executioners. The glory of the empire was built on the backs of enslaved people who served without legal personhood or property at the pleasure of masters who ruled over them.

This was the world in which Paul introduced himself as a servant of Christ (ROMANS 1:1). Jesus – how Paul had once hated that name. And how Jesus Himself had suffered for admitting to being the king of the Jews and Savior of the world.

This was the good news Paul would explain in the rest of his letter to the Romans. This gospel was “the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes” (V. 16). Oh, how it was needed by those who suffered under Caesar! Here was the news of a crucified and resurrected Savior – the liberator who conquered His enemies by showing how much He loved them. As you read Paul’s opening words to the Romans, what phrases describe the good news to you? (1:1.7). Why would Paul, who had once hated Jesus so much, now want everyone to believe in Him? (SEE ACTS 26).

<Good news is known best by those who know how much they need it.>

1.  Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God -- 2.  the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures 3.  regarding his Son, who as to his human nature was a descendant of David, 4.  and who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord. 5.  Through him and for his name's sake, we received grace and apostleship to call people from among all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith. 6.  And you also are among those who are called to belong to Jesus Christ. 7.  To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ. 14.  I am obligated both to Greeks and non-Greeks, both to the wise and the foolish. 15.  That is why I am so eager to preach the gospel also to you who are at Rome. 16.  I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 17.  For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith."
