 A Storm Is Coming!

"The heavens will pass away with a great noise." (2 Peter 3:10)

Several years ago in Florida, I watched the ominously black sky as a howling wind drove the rain in stinging sheets across angrily churning baywaters. A hurricane was approaching!
All day long, radio and TV stations gave urgent instructions on how to guard against the destructive winds and surging tides of the impending storm.

As residents were frantically preparing for the storm, I asked myself, "Why do people take the warnings issued by the weather bureau so seriously, yet stubbornly refuse to hear God's warnings?"
In His Word, God has told us that a much greater disaster will come upon the entire world. The Bible says, "The day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare."
(2 Peter 3:10).

Yes, that dreadful day is coming. But there is a sure way of escaping God's judgment.
It's found in Christ. Those who have placed their faith in Him enjoy His peace here on earth and are assured of spending eternity with Him in heaven.

Are you prepared? If not, accept the Lord Jesus as your Savior today (Romans 10:9-13).

"그 날에는 하늘이 큰소리로 떠나가고 물질이 뜨거운 불에 풀어지고 땅과 그 중에 있는 모든 일이 드러나리로다"
(베드로후서 3:10)

● 말씀을 생각하며 ●
나는 몇 년 전 플로리다에서 험악하게 보이는 캄캄한 하늘을 바라보면서 세차게 윙윙 불어대는 바람이 사납게 부딪히는 항만의 물결 위로 억수같이 내리는 비를 몰아오는 것을 보았습니다. 태풍이 다가오고 있었던 것입니다!
하루종일 라디오와 텔레비전에서는 임박한 태풍이 몰고 올 파괴적인 강풍과 높은 파도에 어떻게 대비할 것인가에 대한 긴급 대처요령을 계속 방송하고 있었습니다.

주민들이 극도로 흥분하여 폭풍에 대비하고 있을 때, 나는 “왜 사람들은 기상대의 경고는 그토록 심각하게 들으면서도 하나님의 경고는 고집스럽게 안 들으려할까?”하고 자문해보았습니다.
성경에서 하나님은 세상에 보다 더 큰 재난이 닥칠 것이라고 우리들에게 말씀하고 계십니다. 성경은 “그러나 주의 날이 도적같이 오리니 그 날에는 하늘이 큰소리로 떠나가고 물질이 뜨거운 불에 풀어지고 땅과 그 중에 있는 모든 일이 드러나리로다”(벧후 3:10)라고 말씀하고 있습니다.

그렇습니다. 무시무시한 그 날은 오고야맙니다. 그러나 하나님의 심판을 피할 확실한 길이 있습니다. 그것은 바로 예수 그리스도 안에서 찾을 수 있습니다.
예수 그리스도를 믿는 사람들은 이 세상에서 그 분이 주시는 평강을 누리고 천국에서 주님과 함께 영생을 누릴 것이라는 확신을 가지게 됩니다.

준비 되셨습니까? 그렇지 않다면 오늘 주 예수를 당신의 구주로 영접하십시오(롬 10:9-13).
