  Do Your Best!

"Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them." (Romans 12:6)

When Leonardo da Vinci was still a pupil, his elderly, well-known teacher asked him to finish a painting he had begun. Young da Vinci stood in such awe of his master's skill that at first he respectfully declined. But his teacher would accept no excuse. He simply said, "Do your best."Trembling, da Vinci took his brush and began. With each stroke, his hand grew more steady as the genius within him awoke. Soon he was so caught up in his work that he forgot his timidity. When the painting was finished, the frail and weak master was carried into the studio to see it. Embracing his student, he exclaimed, "My son, I paint no more!"Every Christian has unique God-given abilities. Some believers, however, feel inferior because they don't have as much talent as others. But we mustn't think that way. God doesn't hold us accountable for what we don't have. He wants us to discover and develop the
skills we do have.Of course, we can't all be a Leonardo da Vinci. But we don't have to be. The apostle Paul said, "It is required in stewards that one be found faithful" (1 Corinthians 4:2). That means doing our best and leaving the results with God. Who knows, we may just surprise ourselves!

 최선을 다하라!

“우리에게 주신 은혜대로 받은 은사가 각각 다르니…” (로마서 12:6)

● 말씀을 묵상하며 ●
레오나르도 다빈치의 학창 시절 그 당시 유명하였던 노스승이 자기가 시작한 그림을 다빈치에게 주면서 끝내 달라는 부탁을 하였습니다. 놀라운 솜씨로 그려진 스승의 그림 앞에서 젊은 다빈치는 정중히 사양했 습니다. 그러나 스승은 사양하는 말을 들으려 하지도 않고 다만 “최선을 다하라”고 말했습니다.떨리는 손으로 붓을 받아 쥔 다빈치는 그림을 완성해 나가기 시작했습니다. 한번 붓을 움직일 때마다 그의 손은 안정을 찾으며 숨어있던 천재의 소질을 드러내기 시작했습니다. 그는 곧 그림에 몰입되어 두려움을 잊었습니다. 그림이 완성되자 쇠약해진 스승이 들것에 실려 그림을 보러 화랑으로 들어왔습니다. 스승은 제자를 끌어 안으며, “얘야, 이제 난 그림을 그리지 않아도 되겠다!”라고 외쳤습니다.모든 그리스도인에게는 하나님께서 주신 특별한 재능이 있습니다. 그러나 어떤 사람은 자신이 남보다 재능이 없다고 생각하고 열등의식을 갖습니다. 그렇게 생각하면 안됩니다. 하나님께서는 우리가 가지지 않 은 것에 대해 추궁을 하시지 않으십니다. 다만 우리가
가진 것을 발견하여 발전시키기를 원하십니다. 물론 우리가 모두 레오나르도 다빈치처럼 될 수는 없습니다. 또 그럴 필요도 없습니다. 바울사도의 말씀처럼 “맡은 자들에게 구할 것은 충성”(고전 4:2)입니다. 그것은 우리가 최선을 다하고 결과를 하나님께 맡기는 것을 뜻합니다. 아무도 모릅니다. 나도 나 스스로 놀랄 일을 할 수 있습니다.
