" I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. "
( Psalm 139:14 )

Think for a moment of the power, beauty, and majesty of a galloping horse—his head held high, his mane flying in the wind, and his legs working in unison to provide speed, power, and abandon.

What a wonderful example of God’s magnificent creation is the horse! God created it not just for our amazement and enjoyment but also as a complement to the human race (Job 39).
Properly trained, the horse is fearless when we need a courageous companion.
The horse was used to carry the soldier faithfully into conflict with speed (v.24) and anticipation (v.25).

Although God was using creation to teach Job about His sovereignty, we can also be reminded through this passage about our own value in God’s world. We are created not simply as a beautiful creature with a job to do but also as a creature made in God’s image.
The power of the horse is amazing, but the value of each human transcends all other creatures.

God created us uniquely to have a relationship with Him and to live with Him forever. While we praise God for the magnificence of the creatures of nature, we also stand in awe that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made”(Ps.139:14).

for Your creation.
You have provided so many majestic creatures for us to enjoy, but help us to recognize
with thankfulness the special place we have in creation.

[19] "Have you given the horse strength? Have you clothed his neck with thunder?
[20] Can you frighten him like a locust? His majestic snorting strikes terror.
[21] He paws in the valley, and rejoices in his strength; He gallops into the clash of arms.
[22] He mocks at fear, and is not frightened; Nor does he turn back from the sword.
[23] The quiver rattles against him, The glittering spear and javelin.
[24] He devours the distance with fierceness and rage; Nor does he come to a halt because the trumpet has sounded.
[25] At the blast of the trumpet he says, 'Aha!' He smells the battle from afar, The thunder of captains and shouting.

" 내가 주께 감사하옴은 나를 지으심이 심히 기묘하심이라 "

● 말씀을 생각하며 ●

질주하는 말의 힘과 아름다움, 그리고 그 위엄을 한번 생각해 보십시오. 머리를 높이 치켜들고 갈기를 바람에 휘날리며, 네 다리가 하나 되어 속도와 힘, 자유로움을 내뿜으며 달리는 모습 말입니다.

말이야말로 얼마나 놀라운 하나님의 기가 막힌 창조물인지요!
말은 우리가 감탄하고 즐기기 위함 뿐 아니라 인간에게 도움이 되도록 하나님이 창조하셨습니다(욥 39장).
잘 길들여진 말이라면, 우리에게 용감한 동료가 필요할 때 그 말은 두려워하지 않을 것입니다. 말은 전쟁터에서 군인을 태우고 적진을 향해 맹렬한 속도로(24절) 달려드는 데(25절) 사용되었습니다.

하나님은 욥에게 하나님의 주권을 가르치시려고 창조물을 사용하셨지만, 이 말씀을 통해 하나님이 창조하신 세상에서 우리 자신의 가치에 대해서도 다시 생각해볼 수 있습니다. 하나님은 우리를 각각의 역할을 맡은 하나의 아름다운 창조물로 만드셨을 뿐만 아니라, 하나님의 형상을 따라 우리를 창조하셨습니다. 말의 힘도 놀랍지만, 각 인간의 가치는 다른 모든 창조물들을 능가합니다.

● 오늘의 묵상 ●

하나님은 우리가 하나님과 관계를 맺으며 영원히 하나님과 함께 살도록 우리를 특별하게 창조하셨습니다.
우리는 자연의 창조물들의 웅장함을 보면서 하나님을 찬양할 뿐만 아니라, 우리가 “심히 기묘하게”(시 139:14) 창조되었다는 사실에 경외심을 금치 못합니다.


전능하신 하나님 아버지, 만물을 창조해주심을 감사합니다.
그처럼 많은 놀라운 창조물들을 우리가 즐길 수 있도록
제공해 주셨는데, 이 창조물들 가운데 우리에게 주신 특별한 위치를
우리가 감사함으로 깨달을 수 있게 도와주소서.

< 하나님의 모든 창조물 중에 오직 인간만이 재창조를 경험할 수 있다. >

욥기 39:19-25

[19] 말의 힘을 네가 주었느냐 그 목에 흩날리는 갈기를 네가 입혔느냐
[20] 네가 그것으로 메뚜기처럼 뛰게 하였느냐 그 위엄스러운 콧소리가 두려우니라
[21] 그것이 골짜기에서 발굽질하고 힘 있음을 기뻐하며 앞으로 나아가서 군사들을 맞되
[22] 두려움을 모르고 겁내지 아니하며 칼을 대할지라도 물러나지 아니하니
[23] 그의 머리 위에서는 화살통과 빛나는 창과 투창이 번쩍이며
[24] 땅을 삼킬 듯이 맹렬히 성내며 나팔 소리에 머물러 서지 아니하고
[25] 나팔 소리가 날 때마다 힝힝 울며 멀리서 싸움 냄새를 맡고 지휘관들의 호령과 외치는 소리를 듣느니라
