Finding Security

"You have been my defense and refuge in the day of my trouble."
( Psalm 59:16 )

After a man shot and killed two people at Los Angeles International Airport in 2002, some began insisting that armed guards be placed at every check-in area. Others said that individuals should be screened before entering an airport terminal. But a consultant on airport security said, "If you move the checkpoint, all you're going to do is push the problem to another part of the airport. There will always be a public area that is vulnerable to these kinds of attacks."

In a world where violence and terrorism may strike anytime, anyplace, where can we find security?
Where can we be safe?

The Bible says that our security is not in human protection but in God Himself. The book of Psalms contains more than 40 references to taking refuge in the Lord, many of them from David's experience of being pursued by his enemies. In his prayers for help, he centered his hope in the Lord:
"You have been my defense and refuge in the day of my trouble. To You, O my Strength, I will sing praises; for God is my defense, my God of mercy"
(Psalm 59:16-17).

God doesn't guarantee to protect us from difficulty and physical harm, but He does promise to be our refuge in every situation.
In Him we find real security.

안전을 구함  

"주는 나의 산성이시며 나의 환난 날에 피난처심이니이다" (시편 59:16)

● 말씀을 생각하며 ●
2002년 로스엔젤레스 국제공항에서 총격으로 두 사람이 사망한 후 사람들이 공항의 모든 탑승수속 구역에 무장 경비원들이 배치되어야 한다고 주장하기 시작했습니다. 다른 사람들은 각 사람이 공항 터미널에 들어가기 이전에 다 검색 받아야 한다고 말했습니다.

그러나 한 공항 안전관리 전문가는 “만약 검문 장소를 옮긴다면 그것은 결국 문제를 공항내의 다른 지역으로 떠넘기는 것밖에 되지 않습니다. 이런 종류의 공격에 노출된 공공장소는 항상 있게 마련입니다.” 라고 말했습니다.

폭력과 테러가 언제 어디서건 일어날 수 있는 이 세상에서 우리는 어디서 안전한 곳을 찾을 수 있습니까? 어디에서 우리는 안전할 수 있습니까?

성경은 우리의 안전이 인간의 보호에 달려 있지 않고 하나님께 달려있다고 말씀합니다.

시편은 주안에서 피난처를 찾는 것에 대해 40여 곳에서 보여주고 있는데, 그 중 많은 것들은 다윗이 그의 적들로부터 쫓기면서 경험했던 일들로부터 나왔습니다. 다윗이 도움을 구하는 기도를 할 때 그는 소망을 주님께 두었습니다. “주는 나의 산성이시며 나의 환난 날에 피난처심이니이다 나의 힘이시여 내가 주께 찬송하오리니 하나님은 나의 산성이시며 나를 긍휼히 여기시는 나의 하나님이심이니이다” (시 59:16-17).

하나님은 어려움이나 신체적 손상으로부터 우리를 보호해줄 것을 보장해주시지는 않습니다. 하지만 하나님은 모든 상황에서 우리의 피난처가 되시겠다고 약속하십니다. 하나님 안에서 우리는 진정한 안전을 찾을 수 있습니다.

곳곳에 위험이 도사리고 있어도
우리 주 그리스도 안에 거하리라.
하나님은 강하시며 우리의 소망은 확실하니
하나님 안에서만 우리는 안전합니다
